Has anyone attended apollo's rn program? What is the schedule like? I recently read that apollo was bought out by devry and apollo's credits will be eligible for chamberlin's bsn program? Has anyone heard this?

I would love someone feedback.

Hi Linzylou,

I answered your questions in a private email. :)

I am looking into the Apollo nursing program I am going to the meeting to get more info on the school but its better to hear from people who have actually attended the school. We're you able to transfer and get your bsn and what was the cost for tuition as well as ability to find a job after graduation?

I have several questions regarding the Apollo program. I have a B.S. in another field, and I have taken the BIO, A & P, and CHM classes through the Maricopa Community Colleges and was wondering how long the wait typically is and if the credits will transfer in from other colleges or universities. I was also wondering if Apollo credits will transfer elsewhere if i would like to get my degree somewhere else. Thanks!

Dude...if you have a BS already, why not try and apply for one of the universities??? NAU has an accelerated BSN program and it is now only 12 months! It'd save you a whole lot of money and you'd have a BSN that you know for sure would transfer to anywhere.

I saw that 2nd degree program at NAU, but I don't know if I would get accepted, and I believe there was like 1 or 2 more courses that I would have to take to apply there. Also, I wouldn't be able to afford to live up there without working and I know the cost of living is kind of high up there. Right now I work as an elementary teacher, so I am going to apply for Gateway's LPN fast track program, so I can still continue to work as a teacher while doing the program and then I figured work part time as an LPN while doing the last two semesters of the RN program.

I just figured maybe if that didnt work out, I would try Apollo. I would really like to do a second degree program, but the cost is so high that I would not be able to afford to not work for a year and pay for tuition and everything on top of paying for an apartment by myself up there.

If I could go back in time I would have saved my money, apply to get into a community college and wait. Apollo College is a shady program. I should have known better when I ran into a student that told me "if the professors don't like you they will fail you." And she was right. In addition, you don't really learn much from the school. I was able to get an 86 and 87 (second time taking the course) without cracking the book open. These professors like I said are shady. 40% of your grade will be based on a test that you will learn nothing about in class. The test question are made up by professors that are not even up to date and some new professors that probably are not as educated as some of you who have prior degrees. They hire the first person they can find.

So which is it? In one post you claim to have been accepted to Grand Canyon University and gave the impression that you were in. Now you say you attended Apollo? Did GCU not work out or something? I know someone who went to GCU and they claim it wasn't a pleasant experience at all, but they made it through. I don't know much about Apollo other than a couple stories, but people ask me sometimes about it and I'd like to be able to tell them more. If you didn't attend GCU and went to Apollo, then by all means, pass along some details the community can use.

As far as I'm concerned, any program or college class I've ever attended carries with it a degree of bias with professors either liking you or not liking you. I took a CNA class once and they thought I was a "know-it-all" and didn't like my "attitude". Basically, I knew more than them because I read MD/PhD-level textbooks and they treated this as an attitude problem because I kinda called them out on wrong info. Had this happen with a psychology instructor too when I told her back in 1994 that the DSM-IIIR was no longer the latest edition and that the new version was the DSM-IV. She gave me a poor grade. I can go on about things like this all night. Not just me, but other people.

Nursing programs are no execption, and probably have more problems than most. I don't doubt Apollo has a bunch of issues. It's Apollo afterall, but I still question the veracity of all posts on here about any personal issue despite the school. You say you passed the class without reading the book(s), but had to take the class twice and that none of the exam questions came from the study material. How would you know if you didn't read??

I am entering my last semester at Apollo and I have to correct lacosa - the professors are not "shady" nor are they underqualified. Three professors hold doctorate degrees and the others masters with many years of experience in the field. They are all more than willing to work with you if you are struggling. I have never seen or heard of a prof failing a student because they didn't like them. That is ludacris. The only students I've seen fail are ones who haven't been able to put in the study hours, which seems to have been your problem as you said you didn't crack a book. Wow. I don't see how you could possibly get through this program without cracking a book.

As far as the tests they are extremely difficult. Regardless, most students pass each semester. Obviously students who apply themselves (i.e. crack open a book) do learn, which is why the high nclex pass rate.

One other thing - if you're already got your prereqs done, they suggest re-taking 1 class to hold your seat for 3rd semester (when the nursing part begins). You can take one of the online classes to fulfil that.

@TCA, I was accepted into Gcu ST joes fast track rn program to find out later that they wouldn't be starting their program right away and so I went with Apollo. I do admit they will work with you financially. However, Gcu is accredited and their fast track programs within the hospital does guarantee you a job right away. I wouldn't recommend the on ground program which is probably where those horror stories came from. As far as which program to choose just go with your heart. Forget about time it goes by quick. Maricopa community colleges has better labs and clinical sites than both Apollo and Gcu combined. But like I daid follow your heart its your career and $$.

@ Shanahan please don't get upset with me. Every student have had different experiences. Good luck to you.

@lacosa - not upset with you. Just want to provide the most accurate info for people considering Apollo. I think it's good that everyone give input to help people who are trying to decide. Good luck to you with your program.
