Apollo College RN Program

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Has anyone attended apollo's rn program? What is the schedule like? I recently read that apollo was bought out by devry and apollo's credits will be eligible for chamberlin's bsn program? Has anyone heard this?

I would love someone feedback.

Devry now owns Apollo...the ASN wing of the RN program, Devry also owns Chamberlain...the BSN/MSN wing of the RN program.

Chamberlain will grant Apollo graduates 80 articulation transfer credits to the 128 required credits for a BSN. That means you need 14 courses (48 credit hours) to get your BSN online (1 year through Chamberlain).

Apollo credits do not transfer as you would typically assume. However...unlike many other degree programs out there nearly every University in the country that has a BSN program also has a RN to BSN program where they accept your license as a kind of transfer credit to allow you to achieve your BSN if you so wish.

I know Devry bought out Apollo because I was there when it all went down, and then they were not accepting credits for the BSN program. Its the ADN program of Apollo for the RNs

Yes it maybe but once you get so far into the program working full and doing clinicals is very hard and you could burn yourself out, fail a class or mess up on clinicals, but remember when you take your boards they say not to use your experience because it will not help you on the exam and it possibly could be the wrong answer

I don't know about that, it is all about priorities. There are three general aspects to everyones life; personal, work, and school. Nursing school only allows the use of two of those things, everyone has to choose.

My wife and I both worked full time all through Nursing school as CNAs, mostly on weekends (3x12s) but your mileage may vary.

When you take the boards, which I have and passed 75 Qs 55 minutes 1st time, you will not use your experience but nor will you use your book knowledge.

When I took the NCLEX I went off of 100% instinct, I read the questions only once and answered on instinct. Now whether my instincts were honed in the classroom, or clinicals, or work experience or a combo of everything I do not know.

In fact many of my classmates worked fulltime...its just priorities is all.

Funny...me too.

However I know about Chamberlain because I literally was speaking to the Chamberlain recruiter this past week for their March 2010 RN to BSN program... Maybe he just likes me more than you??? :lol2:

ASN...Associates of Science in Nursing.

Its what my diploma says at least...

We must have been there at the same time, Sept of 08. I was class of March 09

yes, but nobody really responded. I have biology, psy, eng, and basic math. I was wondering how many days you are in class a week, is it morning or afternoon or does it vary from class to class? Do you know how often they start new classes? I am going to a info seminar on friday. I hope that they will except the credits at chamberlain, i plan to get my bsn later. I will still have a lot of general ed classes still needed.

Yes, it varys from class to class and from semister to semister...I know they were making everyone start from the beginning but like I said you would have to talk with finical aid and the personal there. usually the 1st is like 2 or 3 days a week, 2nd is 1 0r 2 days 3 sem is ususally 2-3 days and clicnials, 4th is 2 days and clicnals 5th is 1 day with clinicals and 6th is 1 day with 360 precep hours and they say you can not work during that semister or if you it can not be the night before clinicals or class... But again, it all depends on the personal and how the classes are scheduled.

Funny...me too.

HAHA!!!!! I havn't spoken with anyone for the BSN program and not going to right now.. Isnt that funny...went to school at the same time, but I was behind that class

You are very correct ChukE... If they did't impress you then i would rethink things. I know when I went , the Nursing Director did come to the seminar and introduced the staff and who they were.. But they will tell you what you want to hear just to get students in.. so be ware.... If you want a fast program go with an acclerated program but if you can avoid it do so... But like chukE said look into other colleges and get your feel for what would suit you and not what people tell you... You are the one who is going to the school, one school might be great for one person and the same school might be awful for another one.

But I would study for the Cpat and Net test.. Most schools are doing those now..

Well as far as jobs go.. good luck on that and yes the clinicals site are not that good. Yes there has been bad reps... All I am saying is make sure you get everything in writing and confirm it with the director and after school it cost about 30,000- 40,000 there are alot of graduates out there from

Apollo and the job market all depends on where you are at.. I know alot that have graduated, pass boards and still don't have a job... Starting rate depends on where you go....

I just started 4th semester and am excited about it! I hope you get in! When Apollo first started their RN program they didn't do a good job. this may be where the bad rep came from. They have revamped the program and professors since then. If you look on the BON website you will see that they have a very high nclex pass rate. People say that the students lost along the way are a refection of the school. I disagree. All of the students that I have seen who didn't make it, it was their own fault, usually due to working too many hours and not able to put in the study time needed. Apollo provides great tutoring if you are struggling.

We just took a hesi exam that predicts neclex success and our class did well. I tested above the nat'l average and I attribute that directly to the instruction I've gotten from Apollo.

I'm not saying Apollo is perfect - no program is. There are trade offs for everything in life.

You can call UofA for the pricing info but I know it is high. Just follow the process and financial aid will fill out your paperwork. Clinicals are at IASIS hospitals. I don't know if they do job placement but I wouldn't count on it. Good luck!

I don't know where you go the information about Apollos pass rate, but it is not that very good. It hasn't even reached the 80% or much less 70% for the first time takers.. Yes, when you add all the ones that have taken it the 2nd or 3rd or 4th time.. yes the rate is good. And this was all in the newspaper as well about all the schools and their rankings and apollo was at the bottom list of 2 who were the worst... And it just wasn't when apollo opened up about the bad reps, or how it was ran... It has been like that since they have opened up, yes some parts have finally come together but we all know it take years to get a great school....

I don't know about the bad reputation of Apollo, but looking at the NCLEX pass rate for the year to date, Apollo has 88.89% pass rate.

ASU as a comparison has 88.35% (BSN).

As for the clinical sites, the 3rd semester sites are at Phoenix and Tempe St. Luke's Medical Center.

and thats not first time takers, that is after you add in the 2nd and 3rd time people.. For the first time takers the passing rate sucks.... It was one of the bottome 2 who didn't have even 70% for first pass rates... it was all in the paper about 4 months ago what the rankings were and from what i heard the last 2 classes for 1st time takers was not even 50% so there is no way the pass rate can be 88 or when they can't even get over the 50% for the first time takers..

The AZBON uses the same statistical analysis for every RN program in the state, no matter how you attempt to twist the facts, the BON is the final word. All the programs are judged the same.

According to the BON Apollo had a pass rate higher than ASU for 2009. I am not sure where you are getting this "1st time taker 50%" BS from but I went there, I saw the classes, I know how many people passed. Unless your classes significantly changed from my class and every single previous class before mine then I have no idea where you are getting 50%.

I am wondering Angel...did you even graduate?

My class and many many many other classes went through the program and easily passed the NCLEX the first time. There were however a few disgruntled drop outs who do nothing but bad mouth the program because they could not hack it, did not study enough, could not get their priorities straight...not to imply anything...

Thanks. I plan to actually quit work in July when I start full time. The first semester I am only taking math and A&P I on mon and wed and taking psy online. I have eng done. I also took bio 156 at the comm college, but it not one of their pre reqs. SO I will work until then. If I get too financially strained then I will get a part time job. Hopefully, I can live off of my 401k from my employer. That is my plan. I only qualify for loans right now, but hopefully next year I will be able to get grants since I am not working as much. I will help wih my huge loan!!!

Bugout- Where on the AZBON website can you find the pass rates for the schools?

I was trying to look it up, but unable to find it on their site.

Thanks
