I am totally with you on this one.... I honestly thought I was one of the last few because you can't find a lot of meaty info about Baylor shifts on AN. What region do you work in?
Even while I was in school, in Southeast Louisiana, my preceptors and instructors had no idea what I was talking about.
Am curious to learn where this type of shift is still active!
I work what we call straights. q Fri, Sat, Sun, 12s 7a-7p. I get FT bennies and registry. Similar to a Baylor.I love that I still have 4 other days to not deal with work. I do miss a lot of family events though.
But they miss out on some great random Tuesdays at the lake (or where ever)when nobody else is clogging up beach, parks, etc.
I work weekend option nights currently. We make 20% extra per hour on our 12 hour weekend shifts (+shift diff). I then work a 12 during the week (no 20%). We used to get 33% on all hours worked but they decreased that 2 years ago. I imagine they will phase it out soon and I do believe as people leave and new employees are hired into those spots, they are straight pay and not at the 20% premium. If they ever flat do away with it they will have a riot on their hands.
Weekend plans aren't what they used to be. People who like weekends and want the extra money simply schedule themselves for lots of weekends plus a day during the week. The weekend differentials are good and you are not locked in to working every weekend if for some reason you need a weekend off.

My wife is just against me working a Baylor Shift and I think it is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Then I hear about nurses not even wanting to work 12's let alone a Baylor. Anyone else with me? Work more hours in fewer days and have more free time to play?
