Anyone work a Baylor Shift anymore?

Published

My wife is just against me working a Baylor Shift and I think it is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Then I hear about nurses not even wanting to work 12's let alone a Baylor. Anyone else with me? Work more hours in fewer days and have more free time to play?

I would be happy just working three 12's regardless of the day. 3 daywork weeks rock!

Me too. But weekends are great because my husband works every weekend. We would be able to spend more time together.

Now that I'm working 8s, I realize how much I miss 12s and my days off. I've never been a fan of 8s but that wasn't an option.

I'm with you.....I'd much rather work longer hours in exchange for a stretch of time off. 8s become 9-10 anyway some days only to return and do it again the following day.

The place I quit doing a Baylor four years ago stopped the shifts two years ago. Looking back, I don't feel they were safe either. 12's were OK but I was doing 6a - 10:30pm Saturday and Sunday.

Mondays felt like I'd gone out on a bender over the weekend and then was hit by a truck.

Haha, hit by a truck. I worked double weekend( sat and sun 0600-2200) for a 11/2 years and always felt this way on Mondays. Always hated doing anything on Monday.

At my first job out of school, I worked those shifts, and I was tired but enjoyed five days off. It was the last hospital in the area to not have 12s on the units, and they soon switched over. But I wasn't critical care then. I don't think working that long in a fast-paced, critical care environment is safe.

Then again, I'm in an environment now where I work four days a week, and it's absolutely awful for me. I miss 12s and three days off in a row from time to time.
