:typingI just started my summer bio class and so far is alot of stuff. What is everyone using to help them out with this class? Any websites? What book are you using? the class is 6wks AH!
maybe we can support each other
How are you guys studying for exams? My first exam is on Sunday on Chap 1-4 and I don't even know where to begin. I really don't want to cram all at once, because that usually doesn't go over well for me. I've slowly been trying to review in my free time and going over one thing at a time, looking at flashcards, reviewing my notes, etc. But I still don't feel prepared at all. There's just so much stuff to remember!
Do you have to buy books for online classes? What book? If you have the book with the white pelican on it and it has the CD still, use it! That has practice tests and activities and has really helped me.
Flashcards are my staple too.
Also, how do you take notes? I find taking them in 'steps help', ie....
All living things are made up of atoms---> which make up molecules---> which make up macromolecules---> which make up organelles----> which make up a cell----> which make up tissues----> which make up organs---> which make up organ systems---> which make up a living organism
So on and so on. If you have the same book, then chapters 1-4 run right into each other, so you should be able to study one chapter a bit, move on to the next, and while you're reviewing for the next you should need to know stuff from the previous chapter to remember the one you're studying. Just tie some concepts together in a big picture maybe.
We do have a book, but it's the one by Mader. We actually have practice tests for each chapter on-line, and that has really helped me a lot so far. The exam is on Sunday, but we have until Wednesday night to take it. I am going to take in on Sunday though, because if we get a bad grade we can take it a second time, and he uses whichever grade is higher and forgets about the other one- which is awesome. :)
Thank you for the helpful advice!
Hee hee, I start on Wednesday, 6/18, too. Our Professor has on-line notes from Summer mini-A 2008, so just finished rewriting all the notes and PP slide details (not labs) for my mini-B Summer class: 20 pages of crunched down notes rewrote (2 columns) from last 2 weeks.
We have Krough books, but think it'll all be from notes like most instructors. Its a 16 week class boiled down to 5 weeks class time + exams. A hard, but good Professor. Lots of laundry lists.
Hopefully, I'll be ready, but I work graveyard every day before class (Security, so can study 1/2 the night minimum). I'll just have the head-dips & bobs at the start of every class, ha-ha.
I am on chapter 11 now we skipped chapter 8-10 for now and will get to it soon. AH its a lot of work. I am up so late writing a stupid lab report. I hate writing. I have has already an essay due, a lab quiz, and exam and this lab report all in the 1st 2weeks. I am counting down. 4 more wks to go and I get to enjoy summer. I won't take part two heck no!
Hey u Campbell Bio peeps. Can you give me your book "study guide" website. You know the the one where they have study stuff and activities for each chapter. My son is using that book next year (WVU)and I thought it would be nice if he got a look at what he was going to be dealing with beforehand. We prob won't get his book until later in the summer. Thanks alot !!!
