Anyone take the Hurst Review for NCLEX? Is it worth the money?

Published

We are being offered the Hurst Review for the NCLEX, but it is $350 for a 3 day review. I'm wondering if it is worth the money...any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Thanks everyone for the responses! I am still considering my options. Our school offeres a 3 day HESI review for the NCLEX and some have said it is good but others not, so I'm just not sure if I want to risk it. I like that Hurst has a guarantee if you don't pass the nclex you get your money back, makes me think it must really be working.

Hurst Review gets many positive comments.

I just completed the Hurst review last month. I don't graduate until December, but I learned SO much that has already helped me in Med-Surg2 this semester. I agree with the other posters-Marlene's voice sticks with you. Our instructor was also fabulous. I highly recommend the Hurst review- I know it was mentioned they guarantee you pass on the 1st try, but for the money- you also have 2 years access to their website and materials and you can keep going to the reviews without paying anything additional. (i think for 2 yrs also). I am going to one in May and one in August too. :yeah:

I attended a live four-day Hurst Review event back in April 2010, and passed NCLEX with 75 questions approximately six weeks later. In my opinion, it was well worth the money that I spent. Keep in mind that I attended a nursing program with a very dismal 56% first time NCLEX pass rate, so I felt that I needed this review.

The bottom line is that Hurst is a good review of comprehensive nursing content, while Kaplan is a good review of strategies for answering higher level questions. Most of my classmates failed after attending the Kaplan review because all of the strategies in the world won't help if you don't know the core content.

I did Hurst review online and really enjoyed it. Marlene did almost all of the videos except for a few. I did her practice questions and even bought an additional Hurst book. She is hilarious and really breaks stuff down and makes it memorable. I took NCLEX today, got the good pop up, so I think I passed. I definitely recommend Hurst review!

Hurst was the only thing I used. I did her program and her practice questions. Doing it online is cheaper than doing the live review. I found out this morning that I did pass NCLEX so it does work!:nurse:

My honest response is this...it's good for some, and not as good for others. I took it was because my work paid me back in full for the cost of the program plus 32 hours(8 hours over 4 days) at my base pay for sitting through it. I also figured it couldn't hurt because everyone said it was great. It's a great review if you are not at all good with content. They simplify the content so much that you'll either say "ohhhhh so NOW I get it." or "hmmmm I already knew this". Either way it's a pretty good overview of all the content you shoulda learned in school, very simplified though. Here's the thing that won't help you. Yes it's a good content review, BUT what if you get no content based questions on the NCLEX?

Yes if you know the material, you should be able to apply it to priority situations...but the content is so generalized that you don't get into many details. When I took my NCLEX, NO topics covered in HURST were on my test..not a single one. Many of my classmates said the same thing.

I felt the EXACT same way.

I used the Hurst Review and found it to be very helpful..it simplified content and she says things in a way that really stick in your head. I also highly recommend the delegation and prioritization book by La Charity...at first I did not answer many correctly but after alot of questions it suddenly began to click. Yesterday I took the test, the computer shut off at 75 and I got the good pop-up!

I used the Hurst Review online b/c when i first sat down to review for the nclex i was completely lost & didn't know what to do or where to start. It really helped outline the content areas that are key to really KNOW for the exam and as i've been doing practice questions & tests i find myself remembering a lot of the tricks/tips from the review. But like some people said i'm not sure that Marlene does the live one anymore and i personally didn't like the videos i had to watch where one of the other colleagues did the lectures so i'd be hesitant to take the live class. Hopefully it helps me to pass... I take the nclex in a week!

I found out today that I passed!! Before I paid for the Hurst Review I thought, " If I don't get this review and fail I will be mad at myself"....it was worth every penny! I know that it was not the review itself that made me pass but there was a lot of information presented that made me think back...pediatrics for example. I am soooo happy I purchased this review and in a previous post recommend the La Charity book
