just wondering if I am the only dinasouar starting.:chuckle If so what school are you in? And are you scared to death as I am.
I have not hit 40 yet but will be in October. I am starting The LPN program Aug. 19th. I am a little scared even though tI have been in school for awhile now working on other dgrees while waiting to get in . I just hear that it is a different kind of studying so I am a little scared at this point. but I am determined to be a nurse. So I guess I will just study study study all the time until I finish . Good luck to everyone:wink2:
I was 46 when I started Jan 2007 and turned 47 right before I graduated on dec 2007. I passed the boards on Feb 18 of 2008 and now working pt at an assisted living facility. I like it....but I hope to find a full time job soon. Good luck to everyone taking the boards!!
You can do it!!!!!!!!!:prdnrs:
Hello Older Wannabe Students!
GO FOR IT!!!! I am here to say that anyone can do, whatever it is they set out to do, with the right attitude and determination! Age has nothing to do with it! I have just completed my LPN and I am taking the NCLEX on the 21st of this month. Scared? Definately! I started the LPN program at 47 years of age, I graduated at 48 years of age, and am now working on my application for an RN program. I will be 50 by the time I complete that program! I figure, if I can live to be a 100, 50 is only one half of my life! I have lots of time! I was told that I was above the average nursing students age, by an instructor of mine. She did not mean to say it in a negative way, she said that she admired my determination and that the older student is more mature. Yes, nursing has always be a dream for me. I have raised my 4 children and decided it was time to do something for myself and show my own children to believe in their dreams and to take those 'Leaps of Faith'! You can do anything your heart desires. Believe! Wish me luck on the NCLEX! Study....Study.....Study......:loveya:
My school most students are 30 and older. When we started we had a 60 year old so 40 is a great age. I think you are more reliable being older. I am 35 and have had no problems getting jobs (I have been offered multiple Nurse Extern positions and I know some that received no offers). I hope my age has helped me being more experienced and reliable.
Hello! I am turning 48 next week and will graduate from Pacific College LVN program Oct. 25th. It's been a hard road but I've loved every minute. I used to think a lot about my age - compared myself to the younger ones in my class but I'm over it now. I'm glad I waited until my boys were all in college to do this and now I have a few decades ahead to help others. I have a lot of life experience to offer besides all the practical knowledge I've gained over the last year. Don't let your age get in the way of what your heart wants to do.
I have got you all beat! I'm so old, I enlarged the font just so I can see what I am typing. I am 49, and had my orientation meeting last night. Expected to see lots of teenyboppers and a handful of 'adults', and to my surprise, I found just the opposite. And I'm not the oldest dinosaur in the room, either!
Take heart, my friends. We DO have what it takes to do this and succeed.
