Well, me's 46 y.o. and me thinks me has lost some brain cells along the way, so school has been a wee bit challenging for this "seasoned" gal. Am in an 11-month LVN program for about 7 weeks now in Cali and am doing okay. Not passing with flying colors, but not failing either. Clinicals just started 2 weeks ago and me had a rough first week :bluecry1: (overwhelmed by my first client's multiple conditions & poor prognosis), but am learning how to care for my client(s) more each day. Me thinks all is going to turn out just fine. God is on my side, so I can't lose. :)

Oh, me has 3 children still at home and a very supportive hubby who's playing Mr. Mom when he gets home after work, so wifey can hit de very heavy books and not worry about cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, refereeing kids' arguments, etc.

Seriously, all is relatively well. Some days are better than others, as some tests better than others. We're currently studying the respiratory system & pharmacology. Just started, in fact. 2 tests on these subjects this next week. Yikes!

Don't let age hold you back...many of us have done this program and are doing well. If you're called to do it, press onward! Just don't do it solely for the $. Become a nurse because you want to make a difference, even if a small one, in someone's life, and you enjoy the medical field. Just my ol' :twocents:.

Gotta go study now...blessings to you & ciao!

I'm with you on the struggling memory part. At 46, and out of school for 25 years, I just don't retain things as easily as before. Am taking some herbal supplements to see if its helps my memory. Not sure if they're working yet...will find out after Monday's Pharm exam. Copy%20of%20wink.gif

Thanks for sharing the info.

I am 54 years old, and will be 55 when I graduate in Dec. There are several in my class older than me (Thank goodness:confused:). And I still am going to get my R.N. Needless to say I drive 5 days a week 3 hours a day to Susanville, Ca. from Reno to get to school. Not to mention clinicals sometimes in Redding, Ca. It is worth it though. Nevada doesn't really offer the LPN programs, and their RN schools are terrible!!! I will need two more semesters or 7 more classes after I graduate. You are only as old as feel. Good Luck

Wow, you impress me! 3 hour drives/5day weekly. God bless you, Terrace54! I live 20 minutes from school, 25 minutes from current clinical site...I have zero to complain about after reading your post.

wow, best wishes to all of us "seasoned" students!

Well, hello all my "old" nursing student friends! Ha! (Only as old as we feel heh?) in my last term. 5 weeks to go. Getting ready for that horrible exit exam (The HESSI) still hanging onto a 3.53 GPA. Don't ask me how. Just a little advise to all of you just starting out. Start those NCLEX questions now! I am glad I did when I first started. Actually saw a lot of those very same questions on a few tests. Easier now to study. Doing the Kaplan's Qbank, has been helping a lot. And Saunders helped with the classes.

Good Luck to you all!

OK, back to the books.

The "Old Man"

Count me in! I recently received my acceptance letter to start the program in October. I just celebrated my 43rd birthday.

I'm a little short on Financial Aid  (on the front end), but other than that, all looks good.

I'd appreciates thoughts and prayers for that missing money. I'd hate to miss out for a lousy 1000.00+/-, ya know?

LBS 2008,

Don't let this opportunity pass you by. I can totally relate. I sold stuff on ebay and am having a garage sell this weekend. Where there is a will there is a way! You can do it! I'm assuming you've already talked with the financial aid person. Cause I thought I would be short also, but wasn't because of the way the quarters fell. So I am able to apply for more money in 2009 to make up the difference. My problem was I had to pay for books and uniforms out of pocket! What a chunk that was:bluecry1:, oh my! I luv ebay:D.

Yes, you are right, in more ways than one!

And my financial aid total came out nearly exact, but with a big shortfall on the front end and a windfall on the third term. I know it will even out, but I just don't have the resources to make up the difference on the front. :crying2:

I'm planning to keep on truckin' until the last minute. You just never know, so I'm not giving up yet!

i start class on the 25th of august and turn 48 on Sept. 3, excited and a bit embarrassed to be oldest student. but hey, i figure the 'kids' in class don't expect me o be able to keep up so i should feel less pressure? plus, just think, after we graduate the patients will figure we know what we are doing because we are so...uh....seasoned looking

mark

If you are too old then I'm in real trouble! I begin my lpn journey September 2nd at the age of 57. I am so excited!

way to go ...."life is good" i am so happy for you! you will love the choice you made.:nurse:
