Hi im 42 soon to be 43 aqnd i will be starting school in sept. i am very excited and very happy to see that other established:clown: people are doing the same. good luck to us all

there are a couple of middle aged students in my class and by middle aged i mean 45ish :D my mom was 45ish when she graduated. you should have no problemo ;) good luck study hard :D

Count me in..... I have been in school for a month now and I can say My age has helped me . Years ago I would not have put forth the effort needed to do as well as I am . During my teens and early 20's I would have played around to much ! ( now that is not to say all 20 yr olds will that is just me ) When my kids were young I wanted to stay home with them .....Now they are grown ( Thank God ha ha ) and class has my full attention ! I study alot but I am loving it !

Navydad, are you finding that your EMS experience is helping you in your LPN class or hindering you?? (ie; different scopes, protacals etc??)

my classmate is 56! a GRANNY!

I think 40 is the perfect time to start LPN school! I'm 45 and I just graduated with a 94.5% average. By the end of the year 25% of our class flunked out, and they were mostly the young ones who didn't realize how much they needed to study. Good luck, & you go girl!:heartbeat

I turn 46 in September, graduate in April, '09. Most of my classmates are early 20's, but I get along with all of them just great. Guess I'm not just a middle aged guy starting a new career after all. I was an aerospace machinist for the last 20 years.

OMG I'm a dinosaur, LOL. Yep, I will be 42 in February and am going back to school (again). I went to massage school six years ago but with the economy the way it is people can not afford massage (it's either a tank of gas for your car or a massage.....hmmmm). So, I find myself going back to school; this time in a field that I believe will provide solid employment regardless of the economy. I think that is part of the reason a lot of us "older" students go back to school. It may be tough but we can do it; we've dealt with a lot of tough issues on our way to becoming dino's. I'm sure you will be fine. Good luck to you.

I used to work with a man whose mom went to LPN school in her early 50s. She was a secretary for many years, and when the company she worked for downsized, she went to LPN school, paid for by JTPA, and worked at a doctor's office for about 10 years until she retired.

Sorry so long to get back to you. In the beginning my EMS experience hindered me when it came to Nursing Diagnoses because as an EMT we where always doing medical diagnoses when charting for the ER or Pramedics. You can not think at all like an EMT in the clinical setting, it will certainly "mess you up" and your instrustor will tell you as it has been said to me, think like a nurse, not an EMT, 2 different worlds altogether. However, my assessment skills are better than most and I had a better understanding of the emergency meds the Paramedics used in the field.

In short being an EMT helped in some cases but hurt in others. I would recommend though not telling your instructor that you where an EMT, they expext you to know more, I found that some nurses that never worked in ER's really think EMT's know more than we do, so more is expected of me. On the other hand some nursing instructors may have had problems with EMT's during their career and they will "hammer you" Just be a new nursing student, keep you ears open and your mouth shut, believe me, I learned that the hard way. :crying2:

HI SHALAMAR

I AM 38 STARTING OVER, I HAVE BEEN IN SCHOOL FOR LPN SINCE OCTOBER OF LAST YEAR AN I AM NOW IN MY CLINICALS AN I AM SCARED TO DEATH. I KNOW THAT THIS IS WHAT I WANT TO DO SO I GUESS I SHOULDN'T BE SCARED....THAT'S NOT TRUE IS IT? I FIND MYSELF HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE BOOK WORK BUT I KNOW THAT I WILL GET THROUGH IT:yeah:
