just curious... i think i am one of the few (if not the only) student in my class who isn't dependent on getting their "necessary" coffee to be awake or to help jump start their morning, whether it be class or clinicals. well, i guess since i don't like coffee, that kind of makes a difference too. and i know many people who rely on pills, coke, red bulls and other "uppers" to keep them focused when it comes to those late study nights... is there anyone like me out there who doesn't use all those chemicals to keep them going and are still doing really well??
Darkmeltdown- I have seen the commercials for the 5 hour energy shots... I have seen a lot of varieties such as Werx, etc. What effects you do you get from them? I have heard from some people that they feel really jittery and experience palpitations and things. Obviously I don't plan on trying them, but I'm curious on how they work for you. Those concoctions make me nervous! (Pun not intended lol)
I am a soda junkie. I don't care if it's Diet Pepsi or Diet Coke, I want it. I drink A LOT of it during the day but that was before nursing school too (actually for about 15 years).
Won't drink coffee...I hate the taste. I never did any weird pills or anything like Red Bull because they made my heart have palpitations.
However, I will state that I did quit drinking all caffeine for a month, while in nursing school, and after the first week of HECK, I actually found that I had more natural energy than I did when I was drinking soda. So I think that if you're not dependant on it, you don't need it to get you through.
However, if you are physically dependant on it (like me again)...it's hard to make it through the first week of ending it!!! As for me, I am trying to dump the soda habit again starting May 20th (the last day of classes).

I plan on stopping it again too, Diet Pepsi was my weakness but now it's Diet Dr. Pepper (I just prefer the taste of diet) anyway, I have just been waiting for a good time to get someone to take me to urgent care to get a shot for the migraine I will get when I stop. They can't give it unless I have someone to drive since it's pain meds.
I can't get through my day without my coffee. With or without nursing school. I love the stuff and don't plan on quitting. By the way coffee has no real effect on giving me sustained energy. I drink it because I love it. It does give me a bit of a boost when I wake up in the am, but as far as staying up to study, oh please! I can drink a couple of shots of espresso and still fall asleep in no time flat. I don't do late night or all night study sessions. I'd rather wake up early to study than stay up late, my body just does not allow me to stay up late to study, even with a lot of coffee. I admit, I'm a grouch without my morning and afternoon cup of coffee. I need it!
Nothing like a nice cup of pumpkin pie spice latte or white chocolate mocha latte, hmm yum!

mmmm, I LOVE coffee and redbull :redbeathe.
I'm a loud and proud fan of stimulants. I'd be shooting cocaine into my eyeballs if I thought it would make the whole "nursing school experience" any easier.
