Anyone with knowledge of Hoodia?

Hey everyone. I am in school with a rather large guy that mentioned today about ordering a product called Hoodia. From some African cactus plant. Anyone ever heard of this and its efficacy? Is it snake oil or something worth investigating. I tried doing internet searches for reputable studies, but without luck. Thanks in advance.

There was a story about it on I think CNN or CBS, not sure which. It is supposed to suprress your cravings for food. That tribes in Africa use this when food supplies are low. I havent found anyother information except from the spam in my email.

Tons and tons of spam selling e-mail!!!! At the bottom of the last post in this thread there's some adverts for hoodia as well - at least that what shows on my screen.

I have two bottles of hoodia, two different companies. I did feel I had less appetite for about three days, and then I wanted ice cream again. Didn't work too much for me. Good luck

It only works when you're chewing on the cactus in Africa, LOL!

I am suprised. I typed in Hoodia and this is the only thread that came up. I am curious also.

Just read an article yesterday . .. discrediting Hoodia. Let's see . .. .I read "Time", and "Newsweek", and "AJN" and "Good Housekeeping" . ... can't remember which magazine . .. I'll have to look.

I used Hoodia for almost a month now but nothing happens!!! Guess it doesn't work the way it was advertised...

I saw a special on Hoodia on 20/20 or 60 Minutes (can't recall which one) about 2 years ago. A tribe in Africa uses this plant to suppress their appetite when they have limited food available to them. Apparently, the actual plant does work, and there has been some credible research on it. But, it grows out in the middle of nowhere and, at the time, wasn't readily available. The special exposed some companies who were attempting to market products that they said contained Hoodia, but were really just scams. I tend to be wary of any type of substance that is not sold by a reputable company, so I honestly don't think I would waste my money on it unless it was given to me as a prescription or was sold by a company that I feel meets certain standards. I have heard some scary stories about people taking things that they know little about. My stepmother is always picking up these "energy boosting vitamins" at truck stops or convenience stores and taking them for energy. I find that very scary.:smackingf

I make it a rule not to use any product promoted by a model with breast augmentation and too much lipliner. But that's just me.
