I am finishing up my pre-req's and would love to see if anyone is in the same boat as I am or even in nursing school. Any advice would be much appreciated!
Pasco - do you think you will just go the LPN route or will you wait it out and try again for spring?
My only concern is trying to get into the bridge next year. Odd years is when they hold spots for EMTs which will make an already competitive application process that much more so. It's a bummer to have to go thru this gut wrenching process AGAIN next year. Boo!!! lol
Chris...I have completed 27 credit hours at PHCC since last summer and have A's in all of them. I've got my AP2, Micro, Ethics, and Lifespan done as well (4.0). What killed me, I believe, is that I made a B in 2003 at USF when I took Psychology as part of my B.A. So...my 88.8 TEAS and 3.77 prereq GPA may not be enough. If that's the case, I also took Sociology last semester and applied to HCC's Spring 2011 RN Program and will wait a semester instead of starting the LPN program at PHCC in August. Instead, I'll take Chemistry this Fall so I can apply to a NP program when done with my ASN (where ever it's completed at). I just hope HCC let's me know before classes begin and tuition is due for PHCC LPN. It's really disappointing and I don't know what to think after reading that they put BOTH acceptances in ONE envelope when I only got ONE. I'm trying to hang on until they let me know otherwise, but it's so depressing to make straight A's the last year, do well on my TEAS, and possibly not get in thanks to a class they wouldn't let me override that I took 7 years ago. Honestly though, I am happy for everyone that got in and wish you all the best! I'm sure the Lord will find a use for you guys! I will apply for Spring at PHCC as well if I don't get in.
Pasco, I too got a B in Psych when I took it 10 years ago for my BA. And my PSY was/is 4 credits, not 3, like PHCCs. Furthermore, I got a B in AP 1 and lab at PHCC. But in all fairness, not a single person got an A from my instructor who ended up quitting before he was fired. Awesome.
But anyway, I applied and was granted permission to retake PSY at PHCC even tho I got a B. There was a class that started last night for 5w that i was going to try and take so that I could up my GPA to 3.7 (tho given your stats, looks like even that might not be high enough! ) So it is possible to retake. The process only took like 10 days, 14 if you count all the back and forth vm's between me and the office at PHCC! Just an idea.
If I might ask - why are you dead set on RN? I really, REALLY want RN but just don't think that's the avenue for me, obviously. LOL I am pretty worried about being in this same boat next year, trying to make it in the bridge. But I guess I will cross that "bridge" when I get to it, right? Ha!!
Just wanted to pick your brain about your thought process. Feel free to PM if you want to keep this private/offline. ;-)
You know, pascostudent, if this is how the school ended up mailing out all acceptance letters (multiple acceptances in one envelope), I would be LIVID if I were you. Just doesn't add up considering what information we have been given about the program.
IF we have been graded solely on GPA, TEAS, and residency...as it clearly states in the information for generic track.....you should have been accepted considering there are people who have made it in with lower scores.
I would raise hell, because there must be something going on behind the scenes. Or, perhaps, we're just overreacting and you'll get your letter in the mail tomorrow That would be pretty cruel if acceptance letters weren't issued standard for everyone.
I am speechless. Almost.
