Anyone going to PHCC (Pasco-Hernando Community College) for pre-req's or NS?
True...there is a right and wrong way to do everything. I went up there and spoke to some people about not getting- and did so very politely. Because I do so, I think they were at least willing to listen and give me a plausible explanation. One counselor, in particular, I felt was a student advocate than a send-you-on-your-way type person. Also, if you're smart, you will try your best to apply to more than one program...and at multiple schools. For med school today, they recommend you apply to at least 5-8 (even though app fees will eat you up). Hope everyone gets the answers they're looking for. Look forward to seeing everyone at the orientations.

Roll call: Hillsborough Community College Spring 2011
Awesome...thanks for the quick and precise reply. Glad to hear I stand a chance and that there's no hidden admissions processes. Who would I be able to ask questions to about actual program numbers?? Examples: How many applied/accepted? NCLEX pass rate? Student graduation/dropout rate? Job placement %? Also, what are backgrounds of the instructors? Do we have a choice of who to take for classes like Fundamentals? If you can't tell...I can be a little OCD. Thanks again for your time and help! I think answers to some of these will help my decision if I have to choose between HCC and other schools.

Roll call: Hillsborough Community College Spring 2011
Crynholder...I chose Dale Mabry since I live in Lutz. If I had all A's in everything except two B's from my high school's dual-enrollment English 1 and College Algebra...thus giving me a prerequisite GPA of 3.714, what do you think are my chances of getting in? I'm accepting an LPN invite at PHCC for August, but may leave if HCC accepts me for January. Also, they don't look at Honors Societies, President's List, previous degrees, or anything else? And finally, how do they choose clinical sites for accepted students?

PHCC Fall 2010 applicants? You out there??
Right on Chris...basically means you sit out a semester since you always apply at least 1 semester early (at HCC and SPC even more so). Sorry to hear you won't be joining me and some of the others for the time being. Let us know what happens with everything. At least we're in an area where there are many options.

PHCC Fall 2010 applicants? You out there??
I'm not sure...the woman wrote down my info. and said for the advising department's sake, since they will undoubtedly get a lot of these calls, they would like to know hard numbers for acceptances, denials, and alternates. I'm not expecting a re-review anytime soon. She asked me if I am absolutely positive though if anyone made alternate or got in with lower scores than myself. I asked what would be their incentive to lie about that if they are in such a good standing right now??? I'llbe alright! Hope Chris does OK too!

Spoke with someone in Admissions...not very helpful. Said it's not possible anyone could have placed ahead of someone else if they didn't have higher scores (TEAS 50%, GPA 45%, Residence 5%). Said Reading on the TEAS was the tiebreaker if people had the same. Then spoke with a very helpful advisor and she said she was a little shocked I didn't even make alternate with a 3.77 and an 88.8. She managed to clarify some things for me though. They do not lump you into LPN if you apply to both and have applied to PN in the past.

Chris...On my way to admissions and the Nursing office...just remember to be non-confrontational if you ask any questions. You never want to burn any bridges and should only look for transparency, not necessarily wanting to argue your way in, thus having someone else removed. I'm sure you'll be cool.

OFFICIAL Fall 2010 PHCC accepted LPN/Bridge/RN students!
MJ...I am accepting the LPN Days. However, If HCC comes calling in September for their January RN Program, I will have to decide whether to stick it out at PHCC, take a semester off to get my License and apply for an Rn-Bridge (with no guarantee of entry of course), or withdraw and go over to HCC. Already started my "what-if" lists, but I AM grateful for anything as I know someone else would have loved to have it and more people that I know currently have NO offers on the table. I work at Chili's...so please, do NOT pick them for the get together!!

OFFICIAL Fall 2010 PHCC accepted LPN/Bridge/RN students!
Try this... Welcome to SHOES FOR CREWS - The Shoe That Grips : Slip-Resistant Footwear, Mats and Overshoes. A lot of waiters, nurses, surgeons, and professionals on their feet all day have recommended this site to me. Shoes...I won't go cheap on since you can easily bruise your arches and get leg and back pain as time goes on. I bought a pair of White MBT Sports from The Walking Company at Wiregrass (also at International Mall). I have the same shoes in black for my server job at Chili's and they feel like you're on jello. Also may wanna try Happy Feet. Just don't settle for those crappy custom inserts from Walgreens or CVS. Get good shoes with a frame and/or arch support. I bought a watch from Wal-mart for $10 when I got my CNA that has been extremely durable. I am not sure about purchasing a stethoscope from our bookstore since I know they normally mark everything else up as it is. I'd recommend checking one of those uniform supply stores or health supply stores for their selection since they get them in bulk. Good luck and see everyone at orientation. Is there any get together scheduled yet?

PHCC Fall 2010 applicants? You out there??
Oh, believe me, I would have been happy to accept an RN invite to PHCC. And, I certainly didn't mean any ill will towards PHCC and their program. I know they admit less than others, but HCC is good too, and I've already applied for their Spring...so it wouldn't make sense for me to go through the wait again for PHCC if I know in September about HCC.

I guess if they cashed your $53 check, they got your application and there was no problem. I emailed M.F. (can't say names!) yesterday about the timeline since I have letters from other schools and she said they don't MEET until mid-late SEPTEMBER. So...that means I have to accept my letter for August and possibly drop out if I get an acceptance in October to HCC. And not to be THAT guy...but because they're a public school...I bet they have a committee to make sure there are "appropriate ratios" of all races, genders, ect. Just wait and see!

PHCC Fall 2010 applicants? You out there??
If I find out in September I'm in HCC's January class...I will not accept anything for the Spring from PHCC. HCC has a much higher budget, is nationally ranked, and works with much better clinical sites and staff. I will call Monday, but am counting on getting a run around and being told it's confidential and they don't keep that information available. I'll be ok...just doesn't make sense and is a little upsetting.

Anyone going to PHCC (Pasco-Hernando Community College) for pre-req's or NS?
I applied to RN and LPN and only got into LPN. Not even an alternate on RN. I will call on Monday and will be very upset if it turns out they automatically lump you into LPN when applying to both. I'm sure they have a way to deal with people fielding those type questions. If people are reporting accurately on here, my scores were borderline but good. 88.8 and 3.77 (1 B in Psych). It is what it is and I've accepted it. I would just like to know why some who I know had lower scores got in and were alternates when I was neither. Not the end of the world...just a little disheartening.

DEVASTATED...got my letter of rejection this afternoon after having a 3.77 and 88.8 with a 4.0 in all coreqs. Pasco resident, Phi Theta Kappa, previous B.A., and President's List don't matter a bit. NOT EVEN AN ALTERNATE!! Gonna really think about this for a while...
