Anyone going to OCC? (Oakton Comm College)

Published

Just wanted to see if we had any other OCC students here!!

Just started my pre-req's on Monday!

i just registered yesterday and it looks like unfortunatley i will be having to quit my job and find a part time job. :uhoh21: i'm so scared to do that but i have no choice. i have to take mat 102 and the cna class and my schedule with work just won't permit it.

i'm taking:

mat 102-wf i think it's like 1-2:50

cna class-m-th 5:00-9 at samlands (starting in jan)

a&p 1-mwf (i'm so scared that class is going to kill me!)

nur 155-online class, starts in march

i registered for psy but think i'm going to drop it.

it's weird because the cna class is only 5 weeks, mat 102 is 8 and so is the nur 155. i'm all over the place!

no, i'm not taking any math placement testing. i have math classes from my previous degree. :yelclap:

Good luck on finals, everybody!!!

I can't wait for this semester to be over! :chuckle

you too nit! thanks.

i second that!! after next week we are done!

what are you taking next semester?

I'm sooo nervous to take my chem final tomorrow. I am going to celebrate once that is over.

Next semester I'm registered for the BNAT class, Pharamcology, Nutrition, Micro and Anat II. Oh yea, and Math 102 but I'm going to try to place out of it. I really don't want to take another math class! :bluecry1:

I just got an acceptance letter to an Accelerated BSN program but I'm still going to wait and see if I get accepted into Oakton's nursing program.

Good luck on finals everyone!!!

i just took my chem final, thank god it's over! good luck to you! i am taking pharmacology next semester too and math 102. you can't place out of mat 102, you have to take it and get an a. no exceptions. that's what i was told. congrats on the Accelerated BSN program. where at? why would you rather go to oakton? (sorry, i was debating doing the bsn as well and am still not sure if i made the right decision so i'd love to hear your thoughts!) :)

good luck on the final!

Sorry I haven't posted for awhile. Don't be offended. :D I was soooo busy trying to get ready for my A&P final and writing papers for English that I wasn't checking out the site. It's nice to have some Oakton nursing hopefuls to vent to, though. I'm signed up for EGL102 and A&P2 next semester. I think my finals went ok but, you never know. I can't wait for my grades to come in. My A&P professor hasn't responded to my email request for the last couple of test grades.

Nitsirk51-Who do you have for A&P next semester? I have Anderson....every day almost. I blame my husband for forgetting to pay my tuition on time for that one. I'm lucky I got in to a class. BTW-The math class is not bad at all. You probably won't have to do much homework for it. If you're decent enough at math you could probably test out of it. I'm not bad but i'm very forgetful so I took it as a refresher anyway.

Paula7-How was the Chem final?

Are you both taking the NLN next month? I'm studying for it now. I'm doing REALLY bad on the vocabulary part. I hope I do well enough to get in. I can not believe these words on here! I have never heard of any of these before!

Oh well-Have a good holiday everyone!

:icon_chee

dex-chem final went well. i got a b in the class so that's all i care about!! glad it's over. b in bio as well. i'm so scared for next semester!! i'm double scared about the cna class at samland's. i start next tuesday night and i have no idea what to expect at the nursing home on saturdays! :uhoh3: yes i'm taking the nln in january. i went to that study session and i think it just freaked me out more. i've been studying too (from that workbook in the bookstore) and i know the vocab is going to kill me! god i hope i pass. i'm so scared about that too!! :uhoh21: so much stress!! good luck to all of us!!

i'm sure you did fine in a&p. who did you have? i think i have carney or something like that next semester. happy new year!

I got my grades-finally. I got an A in A&P and a B in English. I'm a little disappointed in the B because I really put a lot of effort into it but it's OVER. I only have one more semester of writing hell to go through. I HATE English!

Paula7-Don't worry too much about the nursing home thing. You'll just get over the shock and the class is over before you know it. I had to change my work hours to do it too. I think it's worth it to go through it faster. I heard more horror stories about the Oakton program anyway. At least 5 weeks and it's done. The teacher during lecture time is a riot anyway. You'll have some fun.

I'm not going to freak out too much about the vocabulary part on the NLN. There's only so much you can learn in 2 weeks. They don't base your entrance to the program on the number you get right anyway. It seems like mostly everyone is in the same boat. I'm just trying to study some root words, that may help a bit. I have to brush up on my math too, i'm slow when I haven't looked at it for awhile.

I had Strond for A&P. He was really great about helping his students but I felt that he moved to fast in lecture. I couldn't get all the notes down. I haven't heard anything about Carney. You'll do fine in A&P if you remember to take a step back and DON'T FREAK OUT all the time. Review your notes often. If you're on the net alot try this website. It helped me memorize the bones, bone markings, and muscles. It's REALLY helpful. http://www.getbodysmart.com/ Just take the quizzes. A&P is mostly memorization and getting the terminology down. The concepts are not too difficult.

Oh well, I better stop avoiding my studying. Have fun this weekend! :beercuphe  :wink2:

thanks for the website dex and for the helpful words about a&p and cna class. so scared for it all! i'm not looking forward to going to oakton during the day with all those 18 year olds! they're gonna be like, god, why is this old lady back in school? :chuckle

congrats on the awesome grades! u kicked butt! i just put in my 2 week notice at my full time job, going to be working part time at a physical therapy office so i said bye bye to marketing job today. hopefully it will be my last! who knows with me though!

happy new year!:smiley_aa

Paula7-Wow, congratulations on the job move! That's a big step! What are you going to be doing at the Physical Therapy office? I keep thinking that I should be looking for something in the field-part time. But, I have this cushy job that pays well and I can study while I'm there. I'm still very nervous about leaving it even though I've cut back to a part-timer.

Good luck on the NLN tomorrow!

thanks dex. i will be a physical therapist aide. so helping the patients with their physical therapy and sometimes doing phones. should be interesting! i have my first clinical tomorrow for the cna class at samland's and i am dreading it!! i hope it goes well and doesn't totally turn me off to nursing.

took the nln today-bombed it!! i'm never going to get into the program!

i am a ball of negativity today! off to bed, early day tomorrow!!

stick with the cushy job, getting paid while studing? great!!!! i wouldn't leave either!!:chuckle

I'm at OCC completely my pre-reqs. I'm taking Micro and Organic starting next week then I'm done w/ OCC. Off to an Accelerated BSN program. :) If possible, try to get into a BSN program. You'll probably have to go some time or another for your BSN.

I heard their CNA classes are terrible. Go to Samland in Niles. I went to one of their RN meetings and I felt that the teachers were cold and uncaring.

I got an A in Chem but unfortunately C's in both A&P I and II. :stone So much to memorize and cover. But that's OK.
