New to the site. I'm going to OCC also. I'm done w/ my pre-req's. What are you taking this semester? I'm in the middle of A&P hell! :) I'm taking the NLN next week. Wish me luck! Good luck in your classes!
hey! i am not yet in the nursing program. going for spring 2006. right now i am taking chem 101 and bio 101. i heard a&p is nuts! any suggestions or tips on classes and teachers would be great! :biggringi are you applying for fall 2006? i'm taking the nln in jan. going to the study session in december.
good luck on the nln. let me know how it goes. are you full time right now?
talk to you soon!!
I'm not in the program yet either. I'm a Fall '06 hopeful. I'm actually taking the NLN on Saturday. Chem101 and Bio101? I miss those. They were a breeze compared to A&P. I don't want to scare you though. If you can take A&P the following semester then do. It's a lot of memorizing and the stuff you learn in Chem and Bio are built off of. It helps if it's fresh in your memory.
Right now i'm working part time and taking A&P and English 101. I also have 2 kids. It's been pretty crazy. My advice? Get into good study habits now. I use the study guides that come with the textbooks, seems to help clarify the info for me but not as much for memorization. If you have any pointers for me that would be great!
I guess I should get back to memorizing my bones.
Talk to ya later!

i am so scared of a&p, thanks for the advice, i will take it right away. although i think i have to take that cna course and mat 102 sooner rather than later. i have no pointers, sorry! (i have a bs in marketing and am starting over in nursing!!!) nuts right?
ok good luck with the bones and i will talk to you soon. have a quiz in chem tonight!!
Actually word of advice on the CNA and MAT102. Take MAT102 in the summer or an interim class. It's really easy unless you have alot of trouble with math. The CNA course can be taken after you apply to the program-it's not a true prerequisite, you just have to be certified before you start your nursing courses. I took it from Samland in Park Ridge. It's a 5-week course either days or nights. If you can fit that into your schedule it's much faster and you get your CNA certification either way.
Good luck on your quiz!

thanks for letting me know about samland! i was going to call them because it seemed more convienent than taking it at oakton! ok, i am going to set that up with them. :) how did you like that by the way? did you know for sure you wanted to be a nurse after that? what do you do in that class exactly? go to a nursing home? thanks so much on all the advice! i really appreciate it! :flowersfo
The Oakton program takes a lot longer and I wasn't able to make it to the classes. Actually at the time I was working full-time during the day and taking the CNA at night. It was 5 exhausting weeks but I thought the work was pretty easy. We had to go to a nursing home each weekend (one 8 hour shift). For me it was a wake up call to what nursing homes are like-I had never been in one before, it was kindof sad. To be honest I questioned whether I should keep going or not but I think the nurse's have a very different job. I think it makes a difference too at a hospital. Just my opinion though. The other students either loved it or hated it. It's a good test to see if you want to continue. I definitley appreciate the CNA's job after going through that-they have a lot of heart! BTW-I got an A on my first A&P exam! Yay for me.
woo hoo!! congrats on the a! that is a huge accomplishment from what i hear! i have a feeling i will be one of those who doens't like the nursing home aspect. i think it will make me sad. but yes, i do agree. it will help me see if this is something i really want to do. i find myself questioning that every single day. i'm only taking 2 classes now and i feel just drained, plus working full time. i already busted my butt getting a bachelor's sometimes i'm just like, "do i really want to go through this again but this time it will be twice the work!"
how did the nln test go? i'm sure you did great!
congrats again on the a!
Thanks. I have another exam next Tuesday. AAAAGGGGHHHH-Enough already! :wink2: I didn't wind up taking the NLN. I found out I would still be ok to apply for Fall '06 if I take the NLN in Jan. I haven't had any time to study, at least this way i'll have a few weeks w/o classes to go over things.
Working full-time? I did that last year, luckily I worked at night and could study there. Hang in there. Do you have any kids? I have two 8 and 4 year-old. Don't feel bad about questioning your decision, I do it too. Just remember the end result when you'll finally be a nurse. Sometimes I just take baby steps....just get through this test or this class. I guess I should hit the books.
Later-
no kids here. i bet you are busy! i'm taking the nln in january. i signed up for the study session that's going on on dec 21. i have the book that i bought in the bookstore but have had no time to study it. good luck on the test. i have a chem exam tomorow and have no idea what's going on!
talk to you later!
What is the study session? Is it the test taking strategy session? Good luck on your Chem test!
