Just wanted to see if we had any other OCC students here!!
Just started my pre-req's on Monday!
I took the Test Taking Stratigies session. I didn't find it very helpful. They told us to get that NLN exam practice book. They really didn't review any material to my dismay! It's too bad they don't have a review class for the exam, that would be really helpful especially when you don't have a lot of time to study on your own.
Too bad about your test, what are you covering now? Sometimes I think I did worse then I really did. I can try to help if I can, it wouldn't hurt me to review that stuff anyway. My professor was pretty good about giving us handouts to help us study. You should go to the tutors they're pretty helpful to explain things you don't understand. With chemistry once it clicks it will seem easy. It's just a lot of math.
I should get to studying myself, I went to my 10 year high school reunion this weekend. I haven't cracked a book and my test is tonight. Better hop to it!
i bought that nln book and haven't had a chance to really review it. hey, i know a couple of people that had a reunion this weekend. did you go to maine west?
right now we're doing electron configuration and i'm a little confused but hopefully once i actually sit down and take the time to read it and understand it i'll be ok. it doesn't seem too complicated. i'll study tonight for the quiz tomororow. quiz every week!
back to work!
Hey there,
I'm glad I found this site. I am currently going to Oakton and taking pre-req's. I just attended the nursing information session this past Tuesday and learned a lot of things about the program that I did not know about. Stuff like 400-500 people apply but only 80 are accepted. Hearing this just made me nervous and a little discouraged. I'll be applying for fall of 2006 but have yet to complete a couple classes and take the NLN. Have either of you taken the NLN? I heard it wasn't too bad but I still need to start studying...

welcome! i have not taken the nln. very nervous as well. just starting pre-reqs myself. i'm in chem and bio right now.
dex: i'm trying to think of who was talking about the reunion. my friends brother, pat cordes, and his now wife kelly cisela (sp). i know a bunch but unsure of they're year. i graduated 97. glad you had so much fun! was it at the race track? hope ours isn't at radishes or anything! :rotfl:
Nitsirk51: Glad to see another OCC student. We were getting lonely out here. I'm taking the NLN in January. I was going to take it earlier this month but my classes and kids kept me too busy to study for it. Don't let the acceptance rates scare you. Just do the best you can. It's pretty much the same everywhere you go.
Paula7: I know who Pat & Kelly are. I'm not sure if they would know me. Maiden name is April Perkowski. I was a bit quiet in HS w/ people I didn't know. I do remember seeing them at the reunion. I think I talked to Kelly for a brief moment but I don't remember what I said. :beercuphe :wink2: Say hi to them for me. Don't think I knew anyone from class of '97. Maybe Carolyn Costa. Not sure what year she was. Oh well, getting of the subject. It's fun reminiscing though.
what's everyone taking in spring. registration starts next week. i need to take the cna class but it takes up your whole day! crazy! i'm going to have to start working part-time as well which is scary!! no more money!
is it true we can't use a calculator on the nln test? i'm never going to get into the program then!
i'm taking the cna class and a bunch of other classes. math 102, micro, anat ii, etc...i work full time right now and am thinking that i won't be able to work at all next sem if i want to take all of the classes that i need... no more money here, either! it will also mean that i have to buy insurance since i need it for the cna class. is anyone applying to any other programs besides oakton's? did anyone apply yet?

I think i'm just going to take A&P2 and English 102. I'll be sooooo sick of these classes by the summer. :)
I'm applying to Oakton's program for Fall '06. No plans to go beyond that at the moment.
Nitsirk51-Sounds like a full course load. I was thinking about taking Micro with A&P also but the schedule doesn't really work out for me....good luck though, you'll be busy!
