Anyone go to a Nursing convention?

Published

Has anyone ever went to these out of town nursing conventions that are in another city like FL, Vegas etc that are paid for?? I was wanting to sign up for one because I have never been to one yet and was wondering what your experience was like? I would like to learn a lot about different treatments available for oncology patients since I work on the oncology floor. I was also wondering since they are usually 3 days do you get any downtime to visit the city at all or is it strictly all day your in the convention and then you fly back??

Nightwear? Never. That really rules out roommates. :)

Ah.......ok :)

Seriously though - the surest way to get a private room in the post-partum unit is to tell the nurses that you snore.

I went to the NSNA when I was a student. Was an absolute blast. Ive been trying to con my employer to pay for a ticket to the trauma world conference in Vegas, they haven't bought it yet though

I JUST got two emails informing me I've been selected to do a poster AND a podium presentation at next year's Pathway to Excellence Conference in San Antonio!!

My employer paid my travel and hotel when my poster was selected for another conference earlier this year- so I'm guessing they'll pick this up as well.

How much do these convention events cost usually? Is it like a 3-day pass for so-and-so amount?

If you go to the 2014 NTI in Denver, be sure to look for the allnurses booth. Several staff members will be there and we'd love to meet you!

I've already booked my flight and hotel!

I'm with meanmaryjean on this one. I've been to dozens in all my years, and now I present at them. This is my time to learn new stuff, hang out with colleagues, meet new ones, pick up a nearly infinite supply of grocery pads, fridge magnets, and and stocking-stuffer gadgetry, and watch cheesy movies in my room. :) I usually go alone (I snore) but have in the past shared a room with friends, and that can be great fun and a money-saver too.

I would love to hear you present at a conference!

OP, if you are in oncology and have the chance to go to ONS Congress, take it.

CME is a perk of my job so I take advantage of it: I usually go to a nephrology-specific conference and then to a general medicine or internal medicine conference. I also sometimes pick up state-wide pharmacology conferences.

My kids are adults and husband has a full time job also so I usually go alone or go with another provider.

AN is an exhibitor at NTI every year and yes, we will be in Denver!!! Come and join us, stop by and get some swag!

I will be speaking at the legal nursing conf in Denver in early April. :)

CMSA appears to have lost my app to speak a their next annual conference (I spoke at the one in SF a few years ago); I just emailed my contact there and she told me acceptances already went out and she didn't see me on the list of applicants :( Bummer.

Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.

I went to the American Assembly for Men in Nursing conference last Oct., it was in Newark, NJ this year. Not the most glamorous of locations but it was good to meet other men in nursing. It was kind of small but quite informative. I plan to attend the NTI in Denver next May, my first one quite excited about that. Planning to go with a colleague.
