Anyone go to a Nursing convention?

Published

Has anyone ever went to these out of town nursing conventions that are in another city like FL, Vegas etc that are paid for?? I was wanting to sign up for one because I have never been to one yet and was wondering what your experience was like? I would like to learn a lot about different treatments available for oncology patients since I work on the oncology floor. I was also wondering since they are usually 3 days do you get any downtime to visit the city at all or is it strictly all day your in the convention and then you fly back??

So just found out that I was selected to go to one of my specialty (oncology) this year paid for. So excited! You know, I am considering ONS congress in CA or the Lymphoma one in Hawaii. Prob Hawaii... I'd never have that opportunity to go again. I am feeling guilty though... I have a 3 year old son who will prob stay home with dad and I' ve never been away from him for 5-6 days :(

If they'll pay for Hawaii go for it!!!

He has a dad on-site and it will be a good opportunity for them to be together. Dad will learn more about parenting his own child (it's not called babysitting when it's your own child); son will learn more about his dad.

And you will learn that it's OK not to be indispensable in the house. Think of this as a dry run for when you have another baby, get into some sort of accident (god forbid), or have to go out of state for a parental emergency (your own parents).

Specializes in SICU, trauma, neuro.

Congrats!! Your son will probably have a GREAT time with Daddy.

I've never been because it's way too expensive for me to do so. I really wanted to go to the critical care convention in Boston last year but it would cost me about 3K. I'd rather go to Hawaii or somewhere on vacation for that. Rarely do I see hospitals paying the whole way for them anymore.

So Hawaii was not approved... has to be in the continental US but I heard that the ONS Congress is a really great one to go to and its in Anaheim,CA this year so I'm hoping to go to this one.
