does anyone get to wear fun scrubs

I prefer plain scrubs. I don't feel as professional when I'm covered with Spongebobs, Patricks and Squidworths. That's just me, though.

I 100% agree with this. How am I going to convince someone to take their DM meds when I'm bouncing up and down in my Hello Kitty scrubs? :uhoh3: I know I wouldn't take myself seriously if I was a pt. and saw this. I think esp. us young nursing students/nurses need to present a very professional image. Peds is a different story, but I'm not bashing anyone, this is JMO. :)

We used to be able to wear whatever we wanted as long as it was clean and not wrinkled up. We got a new unit manager recently and now the dress codes are being changed after the first of the year. Our floor must wear navy pants, navy or white SCRUB tops, NO Tee shirts, and then we can choose the color or print of our jackets....but I have been told management can make you stop wearing something if they deem it unprofessional looking. I am bummed about the no Tee shirt rule. They are so comfortable.

Another thing folks are upset about.....no uniform allowance. This is our financial responsibility according to our new management...she only has to give us enough notice to reasonable get it done. :angryfire

I have been shopping unsuccessfully several times now....going to the big city today to look around.

I love the fun scrubs!!! I'm not too into the cartoony things, but I like some loud prints. I do feel more professional in solid color scrubs though.

I work in a hospital that requires different departments to wear different colors. The CNA's wear light blue, the nurses can either wear dark blue or white, the respiratory dept. wears light green, the lab wears dark green, etc. This way if you are new to the facility, you know who belongs where throughout the hospital, department wise. It doesn't bother me much to wear the designated color. I worked at a nursing home as a nursing assistant while I was in nursing school, and we could wear whatever we wanted. I find that the hospital setting is much more formal looking, and very nice, also, to me, very professional.

I am a school nurse,so I always have seasonal print scrub jackets..the kids and teachers look to see what I'm wearing. I buy cheap (old navy or walmart) tees to wear with them, sometimes wear scrub pants, or just khakis . I have made some really cute jackets with sale fabrics, too..takes about 2-3 hours. I also shop online at Lydias.com or Uniform City .com, orTaffordOutlet.com..some are as cheap as $10! (i work in a school...gotta be lookin for the sales!!!)

I have to say, even before I became a nurse or entertained any idea of working in the healthcare field, I always felt the print tops, especially those with cartoon characters were unprofessional looking.

I used to think the warm up jackets were kind of ugly too, but now I understand the value of POCKETS, so I wear them If I am wearing a tee rather than a scrub top. We are fortunate that we can wear tees or turtlenecks if we wish.

I love being able to dress for my personality for the day. Sometimes I feel like "care bears" others I feel like "breast cancer awareness". What I wear doesn't affect my professionalism. My scrubs seems to always be a great avenue for discussion with the patients and their families. They seem to like you better when they like your scrubs. Strange but true!

Okay guys and gals...don't be jealous, but I am soooo lucky when it comes to attire! My regular job (one of three) is at the nation's largest university health care services. Because it is a university setting..you can wear jeans, polo shirts, scrubs, mix match or whatever as long as you have you nametag on. I was kinda shocked at first but of course, the students don't mind....I mean, c'mon, look at what they wear!!! The university does issue Lab Coat with embroideried logo you can wear. I usually wear a nice scrub top and blue jeans or khaki pants and polo shirt. Most of the ladies wear civilian clothes with lab coat. Say what you want about professionalism...but in this setting, the patients wouldn't notice if you had a three-piece-suit on....just give them their meds...

we also get to wear whatever we want. I work adult oncology and i wear hello kitty scrubs and other fun scrubs. My patients love it....i have had many say it makes them feel better! A lot of the nurses on my floor wear t-shirts with scrub bottoms, only a few of us wear colorful or printed tops.

I have a "colorful" personality which i like to show with my clothes....which i also do in my everyday life.

We can pretty much choose our scrubs. I used to work in a place that was colored-coded (Nurses had to have white somewhere in their uniform (top or pants), others wore solid colors: CNAs-royal blue, housekeeping-purple, laundry- teal, dietary- ceil blue). Once, when I was a CNA, my charge nurse wore royal blue like us. I laughed and said, "Don't you want people to know you're the nurse?"

At another facility, where the CNAs were color-coded and all dressed the same, one resident remarked, "you all look like a bunch of prisoners."

I prefer getting to choose my own, but it would depend on the policy where I worked.

It might depend on the type of facility. Many nursing homes try to strike a balance between professional and home-like.

As long as you look neat and professional and can identify your role is okay with me.

It's funny you say that... I am a CNA at a hospital and I have nothing but SpongeBob scrub tops lol Well, I have one Finding Nemo top. I brighten my patients' days. Not a day goes by without at least one of my patients complimenting me on my top. They enjoy different tops and I've often heard that they get bored looking at plain tops. I always hear, "My granddaughter would just LOVE your top. She watches that show all the time!!." It's a good conversation starter, because I love kids and I can talk about SpongeBob any time lol
