Anyone else "only" going for LPN?

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Published

Hello all. I am 5 weeks into an LPN certificate program. It's hard work so far, but it's very interesting and I am really enjoying it. Most everyone I am talking to seems to want to move on to an RN program afterwards, but I don't know if I will. I think I will enjoy being an LPN. My goal is to work in a pediatricians office or as a personal nurse for a student. Does anyone else feel the same way? I would love some feedback regardless of your point of view

Thanks!

I think it really a job security/ availability thing. Current trend is for higher education.

I am going into LVN because I am wait-listed right now. As far as job security they are phasing LVN/LPNs out... on the east coast they dont hire anything less than a BSN in hospitals. Im located in so cal.

Hi, I think I'm done after lpn school. I've been so stressed lately. I worry about every test and if I'm gonna fail or not. I have good grades in fundamentals but not so hot in lab. My dad got sick and I have been coping all while trying to keep going. 10 months to go.

I'm planning on becoming an LPN. It's been my dream since I was little :)

I plan on becoming a LPN and work for a few years and maybe save some money or find a company that offers tuition reimbursement and then go back to receive my BSN. I do not want to stop at LPN, but due to financial issues I might have to wait a few years in before I complete my RN degree.

I'm in school for my lpn also, and I really haven't thought about it much. I guess I'm just trying to get through this program and I will see where my career takes me I guess. But I think it's always a good idea to try and further your education especially in the medical field since it's always changing.:)

I am thinking that I would be very happy working as an lpn in a group home or a physician's office. I would prefer a group home. I worked with special needs children and adults before and I love it. Truth be told hospitals are not for me. If I do go on it'll be no time soon because my family is making this huge sacrifice for me to attain my lpn license. I feel like an absentee parent and it stinks.

One thing at a time is my advise. Complete the LPN program, pass NCLEX PN and work as a LPN. Then re-evaluate.

Many people make the final decision to further their education when the job market shows them that they would have better chances with an RN license.

I am an LPN since 2008 and my goal was to work in the hospital because I wanted to float to discover what works for me. Well, a yr before I finished, the 2 local hospitals turned magnet & phased out the LPN. I can work in the nursing hm, dr office, home health or commute. I want more so I'm in for my ADN. Life's distractions resulted in failing 2 classes by 1 point. The plan is to return & finish then move or not pass and move to where the opportunity is. Either way, I'm taking a yr to plan this out. I'm determined to make more money & budget better while continuing education. For me, I need options. Do what works for you. I say, always have a plan B. My plan B was discovered when I failed them classes Hahahahaah!

I haven't really decided yet whether or not I would go past an LPN. I'm in my 30s and nursing would be a career change. I'm just doing things one step at a time. My immediate goals are to get my foot into nursing, start my career, and then begin a family. If furthering my education fits in at some point then that's awesome. Personally, I would like to get my BSN at point just to put myself in a more stable position and earn more money, but actually doing it depends on a lot of factors.
