Anyone else obsessed with school?

Is it just me or is anyone else obsessed with school? I am losing interest in about everything else!

I guess it started before I thought about returning to school 2 years ago, I was tired of volunteer work and committees....Now I find that I am even losing interest in my friends....I feel a lot of them just don't understand.

I am not depressed, I am very happy with my life..I would just rather spend time with my books than having lunch with friends. I wondered if this might be a good thing...if I had a lot of other interests I would not have the time to focus on classes.

I am 44 years old and I feel like a kid before Christmas waiting for my Nursing books to arrive on Thursday!! Am I the only obsessed person out there? Did anyone else discover that their interest in friends and other interests changed as they went through school? Does anyone else feel the world is bored with hearing us talk about our classes?

Did everyone else get a list of rules for clinicals....fingernails not above tips of fingers, only one earring in each ear and only gold or white studs, hair not touching the collar, reasonable makeup and no loud hair colors, and I can't believe this one---students must be freshly showered ( it is sad that it has to be in writing) I would hope people would try and look nice for clinicals!

Susan are you in my class??? just kidding.

Next week we will meet with the Head Nursing Instructor to go over all the rules, but we got the handouts ahead of time..

Yes, they really stress appearance, which I think is good !

I tried to strike up conversations with some other students, but didn't get much response, maybe they were nervous.

I KNOW ABSOLUTELY NO ONE right now, but that will change.

At least I have all you guys !!!

Well I had Orientation today which went really well, even tho there was a surprise TEST ..lol

I was soooo looking forward to getting my books for the 1st term BUT.. they were not in yet.. which is fairly common with bookstores at schools, so I can't really blame the school..

Just one more obsessed student wanting to scan books before classes start.. :D

The program is really strict about attendence, which isn't a problem for me, and they do deduct points for being late, which I've never heard of before, even for the class time.. wow.

Not a problem, for me as I'm really ANAL about getting to class early. Never heard of points taken off for being late, I can see that for Clinicals but not for regular classes. OH well, have to follow the rules.

The thing that drives me nuts is that I'm not getting any grants (loans only - apparently $25k/yr and single no dependents = rich) so I'll have to wait until the money for the books fits into the budget. Unfortunately, that's only a few days before school starts!

About that test, yeah, sounds familiar. When I was in RVT school we had a class in our last semster (a nasty 5cr surgical procedures class) in which there were NO announced tests. It wasn't unsual for the instructor to spring one on us in the middle of a lecture or right at the end of class.

Does being obsessed with this board count?...I check it constantly!!! I think I have a real problem here...Hahahahhaa! :D

I too am excited about school...I just can't wait till all my pre req's are done! Look out then!

we only have lecture 2 hours a day twice a week and looking over the schedule they list for one day respiratory. thats alot of reading in the books about respiratory in one week! i'm worried i so much wont be able to read it all, but to understand, remember, and be able to take a test on it in the 4 weeks between tests. i'm sure they probably wont go as indepth as the books, but i'm like det01 said i can't just have the basics, i want to know why, how, what, where, and how it releates to _________.

nycole

nicole, i think the way most ad programs are set up is, the first semester covers "normal" functional and a few "minor alterations" then as each semester goes by, the "alterations" will become more complex.

take your example of "respiratory" we started with basic needs. terminology related to o2, apnea, ventalation, etc. things that effect o2, excersize, health, emotions. very basic stuff you should know from a&p.

second semester we went to moderately complex alterations in o2 needs. hypoxia, hyper & hypoventalion, stridor, etc. uri's like sinusitis, croup, and flu. lri's like pneumonia, emphysema, and bronchitis. acid-base imbalences, etc.

next semester will will discuss malgnancies (in general) & their treatment and how it effects o2 needs. during the 4th semester we will study complex alterations such as lung cancer and transplants.

i hope this helps, so don't try to read everything about respiration. remember that ton of books will be used over the entire 2 years. good luck and have fun. i'm loving school.

I think studying anything a little more nursing/DX/PATIENT will be a nice change.

Anything but seemingly unrelated minutia about microscopic/psych/cats:p

anything, really.

Peeps , I know what you mean, I'm ready for the Meat and Potatoes too, enough of the side dishes, although the A&P's were the best courses, except for the CAT !

Yea! The cat muscles were just like a giant drumstick! I'll never forget getting a 79:eek: on the lab practical for that one:(

Stupid cat.

Someone asked me to give them some advice on whether to get an appointment with a dentist or a medical doc. The symptoms they were describing and the palpation of the painful area made me reference the cat so I could visualize the internal structures. I don't think I would have suggested his parotid gland was involved if I hadn't disected the cat. The actual visualization of the organs was an important connection to our bookwork, but still I despised the cat.;)
