Anyone else obsessed with school?

Is it just me or is anyone else obsessed with school? I am losing interest in about everything else!

I guess it started before I thought about returning to school 2 years ago, I was tired of volunteer work and committees....Now I find that I am even losing interest in my friends....I feel a lot of them just don't understand.

I am not depressed, I am very happy with my life..I would just rather spend time with my books than having lunch with friends. I wondered if this might be a good thing...if I had a lot of other interests I would not have the time to focus on classes.

I am 44 years old and I feel like a kid before Christmas waiting for my Nursing books to arrive on Thursday!! Am I the only obsessed person out there? Did anyone else discover that their interest in friends and other interests changed as they went through school? Does anyone else feel the world is bored with hearing us talk about our classes?

I haven't bought my books for Fall yet - probably because I was in Summer school and it's not over until Friday, August 2nd. I don't want to look at another book until August 19th - when school starts! Oh, and I haven't bought them yet because they are going to cost $700 bucks  - Just too shocking for the bank account right now!

Angie, I had an elevated B/P on Tuesday night at work. How are you doing?

Thank god I'm not the only one!

As soon as I got my book list, I got online, searched for the best prices and ordered them. I sat outside waiting for the UPS guy to come everyday. One order had 27 lbs of books! It was X-mas! I ripped that box opened so fast, then I had a decision, what book should I start familirazing myself with? My fiancee is one of those people who has to read/hear/look at something once and then he knows all about it, understands it, and can teach it. He doesn't understand why I need to make flashcards (I bought a 1000 4x6 and 1000 3x5 the other day, the look on his face!) and re-read things. But he hasn't said anything about me reading parts of the books - I feel like such a dork sometimes. But the only thing I have to do is cook, take care of 3 dogs, and volunteer at the Ambulance garage (EMT). Every time I have an ambulance run, I come home and look up COPD in 4 different books to gain a full understanding.

We only have lecture 2 hours a day twice a week and looking over the schedule they list for one day Respiratory. Thats alot of reading in the books about respiratory in one week! I'm worried I so much wont be able to read it all, but to understand, remember, and be able to take a test on it in the 4 weeks between tests. I'm sure they probably wont go as indepth as the books, but i'm like Det01 said I can't just have the basics, I want to know why, how, what, where, and how it releates to _________. I even started making up drug flashcards and vocabulary flashcards (something that is a time consumer during the year).

With all this worry, I'm afraid I'll be burn out before school starts.....lol

Nycole

Nycole - I wanted to erase your name and sign my name - you said everything I've been feeling. I'm going nuts cuz my book check won't be in until the week before school starts. I'll only have one week to look over my books. My hubby thinks I've fallen off the turnip truck!!

You're right though, we need to pace ourselves or we will burn out before school starts!

OK fellow students, I am even more excited since I picked up my 45 pounds---yes 45 lbs of nursing books today. Opening them scares me though...I keep telling myself, "one page at a time, one page at a time" It's overwhelming!!! (But fun) They already gave us homework at the orientation---about 7 chapters...and chapters are not necessarily short in 1700 page books!!

Do you know what's REALLY SCARY?? I added up the pages of the basic textbooks and it came to 7914 pages!! NOT counting the 2134 page dictionary and the 1230 page drug reference books! I think I am going to make an appt. with the eye doctor tomorrow...I might need new bifocals for all this reading!

Well I had Orientation today which went really well, even tho there was a surprise TEST ..lol

I was soooo looking forward to getting my books for the 1st term BUT.. they were not in yet.. which is fairly common with bookstores at schools, so I can't really blame the school..

Just one more obsessed student wanting to scan books before classes start.. :D

The program is really strict about attendence, which isn't a problem for me, and they do deduct points for being late, which I've never heard of before, even for the class time.. wow.

Not a problem, for me as I'm really ANAL about getting to class early. Never heard of points taken off for being late, I can see that for Clinicals but not for regular classes. OH well, have to follow the rules.

Sorry to babble on...

Our school has deductions for being late too. Miss a clinical day with out an acceptable excuse and lose 3% of your SEMESTER grade! I think there is a 1% deduction for being late.

The Dean said 10 points would be taken off each time someone is late.

Well students were late today for Orientation.. guess some thought it was 1/2an hour later than what it was.. so the rest of us had to wait for them.

Hi Susan !
