Just wanted to check in with ya'll to see if anyone else feels like their classmates are suited for battle? I know everyone is stressed out and sleep depraved- but really? you can cut the tension in our classroom with a knife! There are many different personalities, obviously, and everyone has their reason for going into this field but isn't the profession of nursing all about different personalities and choices? In the classroom setting it is best to leave the ego at the door- we are all on the same level when we sit down at our desks- we are all working together toward a common goal- I know some are more experienced in the field than others but this is Nursing school not whatever you have your degree in- it is a new beginning for every person sitting in that classroom. We have tons to learn, many clinical days ahead- can't we all just get along?

I just finished my first week, and the ones with "experience" in the field act like they don't need to be in this or that class because they know IT ALL! I wish they would have a seperate class for them so I wouldn't have to hear them answer every...single....question without letting anyone else begin to think. Ok, I'm done, lol. Thanks for your post!

My CNA class made me think twice about nursing. Not the work itself, but the people in that class. I seriously was preparing myself for hell before my first semester of nursing school started. But, my first semester was fine and I didn't deal with any catty girls, it was a wonderful semester all around. I hope this continues.

You will have that. I would say 50% of my class or more are CNA's and through the LTC clinicals they would complain they were bored with only one patient and would tell other students they didn't need to be there and that they should be able to just skip the entire first semester clinical because they do this stuff every day at work. I sometimes use them for help and to ask for tips, but sometimes it is somewhat irritating because you get sick of hearing them complain they don't want to be there.

Unfortunately you are not the only one. My class is full of catty female dogs and I can not stand it. You have one side verses the other side, people constantly saying indirect things to other people, you can't even raise your hand to ask the teacher a question without someone rolling their eyes and or saying something smart. They are constantly complaining, there have been a few arguements in my class, etc, and the sad part is, it's not just the younger girls in my class that are very immature, it is the older 20 something year olds as well as some in their 30's. I can not stand it, I get irked everytime I walk into my institution, and I can not wait to graduate.

I just graduated LPN BOCES full time nursing program. We had a mixed group - quite a few with a lot of college, seemed like they thought they were too good for the program. Although a mixed bag, it definitely felt like the EGOS were HUGE. Very COMPETETIVE bunch, hostile atmosphere, childish bully tactics, that were under the radar. I graduated with the award for the top overall average, ( I tied this one student who thought she was the smartest thing ever, and has a business degree) believe you me, I paid the price for that. The hostility toward me was unreal, they excluded me from any type of extra curicular activities/parties/get togethers. I am 50 years old, and even in highschool, it wasn't this bad. It was a sorry place to be, and I couldn't wait to get out of that classroom. Thank goodness I had one young female student that stuck by my side, very nice girl, she helped me get through it. Nursing school is very demanding, stressful with studying, tests, and loads of material at a very fast pace. I really didn't need this extra trash with these immature- mean spirited - egotistical meanies! Vent over!
P.S I am a CNA too, but did homecare.

Just as a personal opinion, this is not specific to nursing- class everywhere has this type of dynamic- I was extremely lucky to have a varied experience. In LPN school, our class had cliques and separated very harshly until the end when crunch time came- then we were all best friends without question. In RN school, our class was made of up LPN-RN students such as myself and traditional RN students without nursing background. We had some mild issues i believe at first, but in the end those differences fell apart again when class got hard. We needed each other- and when someone acted high and mighty, we reminded them quickly that everyone's input is valid and needed. I think that is why our class did so well on NCLEX. My best advice as a senior manager now is that if there is ego and immaturity, that gives you the opportunity to be mature and responsible- lead the way!

I am in LPN Boces right now and there is a snake in this class too. She thinks she is better than most, hates the moms in class who got any type of aide or talk about how busy they are with studying and child rearing etc and is just a mean spirited bigoted hateful older woman who gossips about the trash. As in the mothers in class. She does nothing except go to class. That's it. No job, no life, nothing. She does her remarks under the radar as well. She will throw you under the bus in front the instructor even if you are innocent.
And as the way life works, she will succeed in class, get a good job, live her simple life while some of the group, who try hard and are great people and who would be great nurses, will probably flunk out due to poor grades or no hours left because of many home responsibilities.
She is not the only person in class who is a two-faced gossiper, she is however; the only one who will go out of her way to do it. Well, for now that is.
I myself cannot wait to pass (hopefully) and move on out of this group.

2nd semester here. I feel we are all helpful except for one that wants us to hand her the answers, plus she works as a CNA where we are on site at AND she gabbed ALL last semester to co-workers.
She hit brick wall these last few days. The instructor changed and guess what?? She had to work!!
Other than the know it alls, it's been not so cliquey.

Everyone gets along in my class. We're like one big family. It's only been a month or so. Lol that may change.
