Anyone else applying for fall 2010 SPC nursing program?

Published

I'm finishing up my last pre-req this semester and will be applying online within the next couple of weeks as the deadline is March 1st. Anyone else applying for fall semester?

Doesn't appear to be, as long as you meet all their criteria! I'm planning on doing it as soon as I can after the ADN-RN program and getting my RN license. If you apply/go, let us know!

Thanx, will do!

I applied in person as well by turning my application in at the HEC building. My sister lives in St.Pete so i changed my address to hers so hopefully that will make a difference. My gpa isnt very high so I have to keep my fingers crossed this time around.

If you're not already an SPC student you'll have to provide proof of residency when you register at SPC.

Priority is given to Pinellas residents with all pre-reqs completed and high GPAs.

@ Itsmejuli - i'm already a SPC student for a year now so hopefully it goes in my favor. I have my fingers crossed!!! I think we should hear a response in April

How many people are going to be considered for the 1st pool...meaning they have all their classes done already (not counting this current semester)?

I don't know how many they accept in the first pool. I was told by an advisor that I have a better chance being accepted into the first pool just by my classes completed vs GPA. I was told they are expecting over 500 applicants, but out of the 500 applicants only 250 of those are truly eligible to be considered.

Aw wait a second, let me re-word that...lol, I mean how many people here have all there classes done completely and are planning on being considered for the first pool? Yeah, it's 70% of the admissions that are considered for the 1st pool.

LOL...I am currently working on my last pre-req, Statistics. I "think" scrapworking is also...

Yes, statistics for me too...and Microbiology+Lab. I'm also applying elsewhere and finishing up their pre-reqs. It sure would be nice if everyone had the same set/requirements!

Has anyone heard back from SPC yet? Just curious because we hit the 4 week mark tomorrow....

I'm glad I'm not the only one watching for the mailman . . . . An advisor told me Monday that the letters go out next week. Another advisor said about middle of April, so it should just be a couple more weeks at most!

I am also interviewing for Morton Plant's EAYL and was wondering if I am the only one leary of the 3-year committment. This is the hospital where I want to work anyway, but I am still a little hesitant about that. I have two children, and "any position in any department at any location" worries me a little bit. Does anyone know how flexible they are or if they take anything like that into consideration; I'm a single mom, so it would be hard for me to get childcare for night shifts; weekends I'm not worried about, but it doesn't sound like you get to pick anything, ya know. I am so excited to start working, though, and that on top of getting my foot in the door, what could be better?! . . . I don't know why I'm hesitant about the 3-year committment, but I am. Anybody else? And does anybody know someone who has gone through the EAYLP?

Does anyone know if Pell grants will cover tuition or if student loans are a must. It looks like tuition is about double what a full-time prereq year costs. Any info is appreciated.

Good luck to everybody!

I applied for the EAYL also. I'm not at all leary...I'm beyond ready to get started! I'm a single parent too, but my 2 boys are older and self-sufficient. Sure, I have concerns - they are teenagers - but they also know the rules and consequences! I think when they said we wouldn't really have choice shifts/hospitals, they meant it. There's no way they can accommodate everyone's preferences. And I'm pretty sure they aren't going to be really happy with someone frequently asking for concessions. Emergencies are different obviously. They said to take a good hard look at where you are in life...it just may not be the best fit for some people right now...and they'd respect you more for bowing out early rather than having to do it after they've given you a seat that you can't keep. (Not you personally...but their words) Especially, if you want to work for them after graduation. Good luck in your decision!
