I'm finishing up my last pre-req this semester and will be applying online within the next couple of weeks as the deadline is March 1st. Anyone else applying for fall semester?
I am in EAYL right now and here is how the "committment" thing works out... They don't technically have a "job" waiting for you after you graduate. It is really up to you. Then you start the process of being placed for a job while in school, you give the lady your first, second choice for hospital, shift and unit you would like to work on during school...I just got placed for Clearwater at the Med/Surg unit. Then (if you like it there..if not then you can switch after a certain amount of time to another unit), it is up to you to make them want you at the end after you pass boards. The lady said unless you are a horrible worker and hate it there then you will get that as your RN job. She shift is up in the air though....but keep in mind that the sift differentials are awesome...overnight nurses make an EXTRA $5.00 (at minimun)/hr...hopw this helps :)
Thank you so much for the info. I am aware of shift differentials and would love to work at night and weekends, doesn't make a difference to me as far as when I work, just figuring out childcare for night shifts is what I am worried about--and I figure if I do well, I could switch to weekends/weekend nights when/if I did get a choice after a while. My mom and I are talking about how we can make it work for night shifts; if they are 12-hour shifts, that's a plus since it would be 3-4 days tops where things would be a little crazy, but she is so great and telling me we will make it work. I have worked very hard through school, absolutely love it, and my grades show, so unless I am horrible at clinicals (which I don't expect), I was hoping I would have a little say in where I got to work, but then I didn't know if any of that is taken into consideration when placement comes around. Again, thanks for the info!
Petra - I didn't see that in my letter - the GPA reference. If I get A's in all my classes this semester, I'll still only be at a 3.61 (right now, it's the same as yours). Unbelievable that we'd not make it when we're this close. I can't see retaking any of my B classes to bump up the GPA by a fraction. I'll go elsewhere or to LPN school first. Wow.
I think she meant she hasn't been contacted for a second interview with EAYL...calls started yesterday and some people are getting calls today. I haven't either (but I'm not surprised, I had a lousy interviewer). We're both bummed.
Yep, didn't get a call from EAYL about a 2nd interview. My best chance to get into the SPC program was with this first round since I was taking my last pre-req, which if I get an A will only boost my GPA up to just at a 3.5 or just a bit above. This has me thinking that I can take a psych course over again that I took yyyeeeeaaaarrrrssss ago in which I made a C in to change it to an A, and also English which I made a C in (all because I missed 2 freakin' classes!), but I really don't want to take English 1 all over again. I want to email ***** but don't know quite what to say. *SIGH* I. am. discouraged.
I had a horrible interviewer. She was nice, but kind of let me do the talking. It was akward. You should email ***** and just tell her how much interest you have in the program and nursing. I sent a letter after bot interviews...i'd like to think that helped. Don't get too discouraged. I didn't get a call back for a month!
Morgan...thanks for the encouragement. Apparently ****** is hearing that quite a few people have gotten call backs since yesterday, which leads me to believe that I am not one of the "chosen". Was it that way with you also? I had a great interviewer who even told me I did great, which with what I am hearing now perhaps I didn't do well enough? It's only been ~10 days since the interview and I am shocked that they are doing call backs already. I'm mulling over emailing *****...not sure if it would help or hinder my fate. You did send a letter afterward? I'm thinking it might be too late for ******* and I to go down that avenue.

I'm giving it some definite consideration for sure, my boys are 2 and 9, so I have gramma and grandpa to help, but that's it. I am sure they will let me know if I'm not the right person.
