Hello. I will be applying as well for the fall semester. I'm really nervous because I applied last semester and i didnt get in. I currently live in Tampa and when i spoke with an advisor she stated that it will be hard for me to get accepted due to the county resident preference. Good luck!
Do you stand a better chance of getting in the second time around even though you don't live in the county? Also, did you apply in person or online last time? I've been doing some reading on this board and a few people have posted that they did it in person and are glad they did, etc., etc. I was going to apply online, but if it's not the wisest choice I'll swing by HEC sometime in the next couple of weeks.
I applied in person as well by turning my application in at the HEC building. My sister lives in St.Pete so i changed my address to hers so hopefully that will make a difference. My gpa isnt very high so I have to keep my fingers crossed this time around.

I had a crappy GPA too...only a 3.2. The average GPA for acceptance last sememster was a 3.7 I think and over 600 application! So, knowing I wouldn't get in on my GPA alone, I went the Earn As You Learn route with Baycare and got in. So, unless you have something against the 3 year contract after graduation....you should SERIOUSLY think about getting into the Baycareprogram. I am SUPER glad I went this way b/c stuff is expensive!!! Tuition was $1100 and JUST the required books (not the recommended reading) was $950 and that is all covered by Baycare. Good luck!!!!! :)
Morgan0429, I love reading your posts! I called the Baycare EAYL line this AM and found out that the information session for fall 2010 is being held on March 30th. Can you let me know what they do at this session and how long it lasts? I have 4 kids on spring break during this time, which is why I ask about how long the session is. My GPA is average, a 3.5 in all the nursing pre-reqs, with a 4.0 in all sciences, excluding Statistics which I am currently taking this semster. I hope it's a competitive GPA to get me in, but I really would love to get into the EAYL program. Also, how is the first semester of nursing school - more difficult than you thought it would be, is there a lot of studying involved?
Well, when I went thru the process last time (if they didn't change anything)...it goes like so.... If the info session is on March 30th, prior to that, there should be a certain timeframe to go onto Baycare's website and first off apply to EAYL program. On the info/job fair hotline you called, they should say the window of dates to do so. The application is just like any other application and you fill it out online and post your resume with it. Next, once the recieve the application, they start to call everyone back for interview time blocks at the info session. At the info session, they schedule for a group of people to come in (like 20-30 ppl) and they give you some info on EAYL. Then, they have little mini interviews where you have a 1 on 1 with a member of the recruitment team. My first interview was literally only 5 min long-if that and was there for maybe an hour! I picked the earliest time slot the had so I wouldn't be there stuck with interviews running over time. They ask for transcripts, resume and a piece of paper you have to get signed by the a Nursing Advisor to say that you are eligible for the program and have taken all the necessary pre-reqs etc... The basic questions were asked..."Why nursing?", "What was a time you were stressed out and over your head and how did you deal with it?" DRESS FOR AN INTERVIEW!!! People came in with jeans and open-toed shoes...dorks! After that, theywill call you if they liked you to set up a second interview with the director of the program for a 1 on 1. Same thing, interview questions etc. Then they look at your answers you gave and the board decides from there. The total process took a few months. As far as the GPA thing, they only look to make sure you have the minimum GPA of 2.75. They don't base it on GPA at all!!! It is pretty much a personality thing and need to show how much you want it! The first sememster is okay so far. It is a lot to take in and not too much studying so far, but I head from others that as the semester goes on and got go onto the next level it is insane!!!!! Hope this helps you! Sorry about the novel! Here is a link for the EAYL requirements if you don't already have it!

Let me know if you have anymore questions :)
Well, my application is in and now I sit back and wait. The advisor I spoke to said that I might have a good chance of getting in through the first pool because I've taken all the classes....we shall see....keeping my fingers crossed. While I was there I had her prepare the stamped hospital expansion program form and print out my unofficial transcripts for EAYL. I really hope I get into EAYL!!
Good luck to you!!! :)

Here! Wish I'd seen your PM earlier...I did mine online last night. I guess I'll just have to follow up with them next week to confirm it was received (even though I did get a confirmation email!). Thanks again for the EAYL information...I'll definitely be applying for that too. Good luck!
Terecil - you don't have to show proof of residency somehow, like a Driver's License or utility bill in your name? I know you do for some schools...

Hi,
I'm new here and i'm a pre-nursing student at SPC as well. How does the EAYL program work?
It is a program through Baycare (Morton Plant) hospitals. Its is AWESOME! I got accepted to it and in my 1st semester of nursing school @ SPC. They pay your tuition...pay for required books...give you a job as a PCT while in school ( and pay you)...AND they also give you a educational stipened of $175/wk of school. Here is the link to get all the information. There is also a phone # to call to get info on the info/job fair. Good luck!
