I'm finishing up my last pre-req this semester and will be applying online within the next couple of weeks as the deadline is March 1st. Anyone else applying for fall semester?
Okay, I just sent her an email...at this point my curiosity is getting the best of me and I just need to know what is going on. I touched on the points you had mentioned, Morgan, and hopefully I'll hear back from her tomorrow. And you are right, not hearing anything doesn't quantify a "no", but I am just so bummed that I haven't heard anything when others are. I have to look at this as just another bump in the road.
I thought you had to be accepted by the school in order to do EAYL, or you just had to meet the checklist requirements of SPC?
You guys can do the CPR/BLS class and apply for nursing support at Morton Plant while you're waiting (if you aren't CNAs already). I don't believe they require your CNA cert, but I could be mistaken. And if you are already working there, then when January comes around . . .

Same here Petra...the reason they stated was because I'm still finishing my pre-reqs. Hopefully, when they look at us again for the second pool (and everything's showing completed) our GPA's will be high enough and they'll call. Still...going to work on Plans C, D and E.
Pre-reqs meaning pre requirements, like AP 1 and 2? Usually you are more competitive with all classes complete before applying.
SPC will look at you if you are in your last pre-req the semester that you apply, and the first pool is more based on how many classes you have completed vs GPA. That is why they will stick you back in the second pool after the semester ends so they can see what your GPA is after the pre-req is completed. We're on our last pre-reqs, being Stats for me and her, and she has another one or two to finish also. Stats and micro they will allow you take even while in the nursing program, but you are right - it's more to your advantage to have them completed beforehand.
You will want as many as possible done; this is how one advisor explained it: The pre-req's all completed are about 60 points toward the 100 on their point scale, so I was told if you have a 3.5 GPA (about 35 points of the 100) and all pre-req's done (60 points) it'd be even with somebody who was short 1 pre-req (55 points) but has a 4.0 GPA (40 points of the 100), both coming out to 95 obviously. Even though they let you apply before stats and micro, chances of getting in are slim missing 2 pre-req's even if you have a 4.0 GPA.
I will have all mine done by the time nursing starts, thank goodness, cause Micro is very hard, for me anyway, and I couldn't imagine doing it along with nursing. Good luck to everybody on this adventure!
I got into SPC last Fall. It was my second time applying but the first time I still had pre-reqs to do. I do NOT have a great GPA. I had like a 3.2 or something. But I had ALL my pre-reqs and co-reqs done. I was chosen in the first pool, as well.
Also, the school is not THAT expensive. And don't buy your books at the bookstore if at all possible. Also buy your scrubs anywhere but from ScrubCity or wherever they tell you to go!
I am so glad you posted. I have a couple questions. I was accepted for August and was wondering if you have any more tips.
And, I wanted to get my shoes and stethoscope over the summer while I'm waiting for orientation. I'm just excited to get stuff finally, I guess. One of the advisors said wait til orientation; I had asked if anything had to be a certain color, shoes have to be white, that kind of thing. Can you tell me what the dress code is, want to start looking for scrubs. And I was going to buy a Littmann stethoscope (I figure even if they give me one, it probably won't be a good one?). Some other students from other schools said they got a bag with lots of stuff, penlight, that kind of thing, so I didn't want to buy too much.
How hard is it to get the schedule you ask for; advisor told me I have a good chance of getting what I want, but I wondered how many people really do. And just one more question; as I understand, you can pick your site for clinicals, so without posting any hospital names (don't know if I'm allowed), if you had a choice between a VA hospital and a level II trauma hospital, which would you pick? Critical care is my goal. One hospital does not hire new grads into ICU, but these two, to the best of my knowledge, do so I'm thinking about both; didn't know if you get a first, second, third pick or how that works either. Nobody has told me anything, just that this info will be gone over at orientation, but as you can probably tell, I'm pumped and want as much info as I can get at this point.
Thanks for any more tips!
Does anyone know when to apply if you want to start in Spring 2010? I will be finished with my prerequisites in July...is it even possible to apply then for the Fall 2010 term or is that too late? Also what is considered a good GPA, and is the GPA just the prerequisites or an overall of everything you have taken?
Thanks!
You can apply between now and July 1st. July 1st is the deadline for spring 2011. The fall term applications had to be submitted by March 1st so you're too late for the fall session. A good GPA to get in seems to be around a 3.6 and that GPA is only for the pre-reqs needed to get into the nursing program, not your overall GPA. They also look at how many pre-reqs you have completed at the time of your application - if all are done and you have a lower GPA you still have a good chance of getting in since it's done by a point system. I don't think I've seen anyone get in with a GPA lower than a 3.2, but I could be mistaken.

It took about a month after my interview to get a call back. But I called about once a week to check up on my status. I sent out my letter the day of my interviews. Give her a call...they will call or email you either way. So if you have not heard a "yes" yet, than you have not heard a "no" either.
