Excited and nervous. I am worried I am going to totally blank when push comes to shove and look like a complete idiot (in addition to worrying about patient safety). I know our meds are basic for med pass... but it still seems there is just so much to remember.

I also am freaking out about giving a shower without coming out as wet as the patient. I've helped my grandmother bathe and when she has the sprayer she ALWAYS managed to get me a time or two! Eek. (And our scrubs our white, lol.) I think I am going to bring a complete spare uniform to keep in my trunk for those clinical days just for peace of mind.

man... 1st and 2nd semester i was sooo nervous at clinicals! i used to have to take a xanax before going on the floor just to not freak out! but don't worry... you have your teacher and classmates there for you. some nurses on the floor are very helpful and will teach while others don't want students around. don't let them bother you.

regarding showers, i am a PCT (CNA) and i've given a couple showers... and yes, you do get sprayed a little bit but you just try to stay back as far as possible. i do think it's a good idea to have an extra pair of scrubs on you, just in case you get TOO wet. i gave a shower to a lady last week but it was at the end of my shift so i didn't mind being a little damp.

p.s. i love reading about you first semester students... it reminds me of where i used to be!! i just wish there was a last semester thread too... :crying2:

wow! i read the whole posts here, before i can make my post.I enjoyed it, reminded me of my schoold days.

mb,just want to ask you where you are in pierson? I am in pierson too.the reason i am reading the DSC posts here, I am searching if they are having a refresher course? I am an int'l. grad. and still preparing for my 2nd time exam. Planning to work as PCT in the hospital but not much confident enough,so this refresher course might help me be confident.

Any infos.will greatly be appreciated.

ScarigSN,

I'm glad to hear you worked as PCT at memorial hospital. That is where I am planning to apply as PCT too. Maybe you can give me some ideas about this job? I would live to hear from you, btw, accept my congratulations in making it to your last semester.I know it is a tough job to be there.

hi shiina! Florida Hospital Ormond is a great place to work. I work as a flex pool employee so I float to other floors all the time. I would recommend applying on the 3rd floor - Surgical Nursing Unit or 2nd floor - Progressive Care Unit. Those are the two best floors. There also may be positions on the 6th floor - Medical Care Unit which you will learn a lot on but it is a very hard floor, very sick patients, many on isolation. Good luck!

Private message me with any further questions.

And thank you for the luck about my final semester... I have always gotten B's but this semester I have a C :bluecry1: It's definitely hard but I know I'll get through it to be a :nurse:

Hello,

I live by the Chipper Jones park, just on the other side of the railroad tracks! Where do you live? I would also like to work as a PCT, but not really sure when to take that adventure on, because I really want to concentrate on school.

To ScraigSN,

To MB,

Thanks for your response.I lived one block from the middle high school. It's good to know someone here is my neighbor.

Passed Foley! Now To Face Meds!

passed cath, one more to go!

Passed too!!! I definitely thought that was the most difficult skill so far. Did you guys actually use the packets of stuff (peroxide & lube)? Some of the students in my class did and some did not. My instructor wanted us to open them and OMG, the cath went in SOOO much easier!!

Med-pass here we come!!!
