Has anyone appied and been accepted into the RN program at DBCC? If so what was your GPA? How were your NET scores?
I don't consider myself super anything but I do work 32 hrs a week and have a family in addition to the program. My husband often works 7 days a week, and while it is exhausting, we are thankful he has steady work. Some days I really wonder if I am pushing myself too hard, but my whole family is making sacrifices so that I can do this. So... I keep on.
Now, my house is a mess, I don't see much of my husband, and my kids are eating tyson chx nuggets more than I'd like to admit. But, we are all fed, safe and loved. So, along with time mgmt, you learn to pick your battles.
Another way I look at it: I don't really have a choice as to whether or not I work. (I can work less but not much as I carry our health bene's). Not having a choice makes things easier. I don't really get to spend time thinking about how hard it is. I just do it. I think its more taxing on those who have an option. Just IMHO.
You'll be fine. It's work, but doable.
Wow! You do have a lot going on. Very impressive. Thanks for your input. I really need to work at least a little to make things easier for my family. We were laughing the other night at dinner because I said it was their last restaurant meal for 2 years. I was kidding of course but we will definitly cut back. I know it will be worth it. I feel so old. Im 33 and will be 34 next month and my son will be one next month. I know it will be a lot of work but 2 years i'm sure will fly and this has been my dream. Thanks again for the inspiration.
WOW. so much to reeeaaadd.. i love how much you guys post. although you are all in first semester (some not even applied yet) it's nice to read about others in my program. i graduate on December 16th and I'm so exciiitteeeddd!
Ms. Rosati is the best!!!!!!! She is so sweet and caring and supportive. She is GREAT at teaching math (i've passed every math test with 1 or NONE wrong) and is sooo great at clinicals.... on our last day of clinicals, our group went to olive garden and i'll never forget that day. you're lucky if you have her.
I also love when I see that professional nurses in our community have graduated from my program... sooo many people have! I currently work at Florida Hospital Ormond Memorial and my nurse manager graduated from our program in 1990.. as well as many nurses in our hospital (i recognize them in their class photos in the halls!)
Working part time while in school IS definitely doable... and recommended. if you do nothing but school a) you will go crazy and b) you may get lazy. i DOUBT you'd spend alllll your time studying.. why not work and learn in the meantime? I work as a Patient Care Tech (CNA) and I have learned sooooooooooo much... about everything.... MD/RN interaction, procedures, healthcare politics, networking, patient interaction, compassion, communication... the list goes on. and i've only been there 6 months. yes, it can be very hard work at times but what gets me through is that there is a light at the end of the tunnell!!! the job i'm currently in is only temporary and i will move up in less than 3 months.. wow. plus i have a guaranteed job the day i graduate.
to everyone, study hard, love what you do or don't do it, and ENJOY yourself!!! it flies by.
Passed!! Now I we have to get past test 3. I'm kind of freaking out about that one. Supposedly Mrs. Burkhart is going to have a review session in the skills lab in Daytona on Friday from 10-11am. I'll try to find out more info and post it. Also, I'm gonna try and grab one of those ulcer butts and get some extra practice in on Thursday at the skills lab. Good luck, guys!!

I haven't even applied to the nursing program yet. I know I have until the end of the month but I haven't had a day off during the week. I'm going to submit everything on Weds. If I am chosen it will be for the Jan 09 class right??? Also can anyone tell me if they are working part time right now and if its manageable?? I know there are super heros out there that work full time raise a family go to nursing school and volunteer and exercise and .....I'm not that kind of person. I need to really study to get good grades. Just a little input if you guys don't mind. Thank you.
