have him take the exam to get into nursing school and see how far he gets! I am so bad..I can't help it.

I am one of those "older nurses", 45 years old and a big supporter of womens rights. You tell him that you are going to go for what you want and there's no stopping you. Nursing school is hard work. Does he realize how many science classes are involved in nursing school? Calling you dumb doesn't help his situation either. I would not argue with him. It's just not worth it.

You stand up for what is right for you. Tell him he is jealous that you will leave him. He probably doesn't want you to advance yourself. He probably has one of those old school notions that you will leave him for a doctor. MEN...HMMPHH!

Just wondering, does he always talk down to you like that? Why is he with you if you are so dumb? It just seems to me that there is so much more going on there than lack of understanding of the nursing profession.

He usually calls me dumb & stupid.

first why are you still with a guy who calls you dumb and stupid and puts you down? you can do better. By the way no not anyone can get into nursing or any other healthcare career for matter.

I don't think he knows he hurts my feelings.

He was laughing the enitre time he was saying the whole "nurse" thing.

I was so offended yesterday!
I am not yet a nurse, but I am planning to go to college to major in nursing.
My boyfriend & I had a heated discussion yesterday about nursing.
He basically said "Anyone can be a nurse. You are gonna go to college for it, when my sister who dropped outta high school is taking classes & she will be YOUR boss. It is an easy job. You dont really do much; it just consist of memorizing info. You really don't do much work. ANYONE CAN BE A NURSE!"
I got so ****** that he actually did feel that way. I seriously want to be a nurse & for someone to say that all I'm doing is working under a physician & "handing him gloves" hurts my feelings.

He said that I want to get int nursing because I'm "dumb" && it's fairly easy.
He said they are making nursing easier & easier because it's such a huge shortage & they need more nurses.

He currently works at a Dollar Tree. He is 18 & I'm 17.
He wants his career to be in the music field.
He plays the guitar & stuff. Heavily influenced by Bob Dylan.

Yeah, this is abusive. My father used to do this to my mother.

I remember my father laughing as he beat the crap out of my mom.

Why stay with a guy that does this? He knows it hurts your feeling. Most likely he doesn't care. He obviously doesn't care how you feel or what you think. He is only going to escalate this behavior.

Go become a nurse. Don't let anyone stop you.

People who say hurtful, rude and insulting things while laughing or smiling and doing ot to make it harder for you to call them on it - "oh honey, I was kidding. Can't you take a joke?" In no universe is calling someone stupid and demeaning them funny. Try calling him a try hard wanna be with no talent and see how funny he thinks it is.
