hello!

is anyone apply to the simmons dix scholar 2-yr BSN program for fall 2010?

just wanted to find anyone who wants to share stories/info about the application process.

thanks!

Julia and bri,

I am definitely going to Simmons beginning in July! I got my trasnfer credit eval via email last week and all looks good. I just have to send my transcripts from this and last semesters to confirm, but I think they will be fine since I took them at the same school and have already forwarded my syllabi for all classes. I am so excited!!!! I spoke with the registrar's office and the girl said that we will be taking NU 225 and NU 292 over the summer. NU 225 has a 4 hr lab twice/week and a 3 hour lecture once per week, NU 292 has a 4 hr weekly lab and 3 hr lecture. You can see all of this on the AARC. Will you all be definitely going to Simmons?

NeNe,

Yes, I did have to fill out some forms prior to my acceptance. I am not sure if that is normal for all applicants or what, I'm sorry, but best of luck to you!!

Kerri

Hi Kerri

I am not sure yet if I am going, I am trying to learn more about the program. Do you know if in the 18-month program we are mixed with undergraduates? I also found out that I would need to take an art/music class because I did not fulfill one of their "modes" does anyone else here have the same situation?

kerri,

i am definitely going to simmons. i can't wait! i was checking out the summer schedule online as well. i'm assuming we can't actually schedule anything until we send in our deposit.

bri,

i'm not sure that we will be mixed with undergrads, but i'm pretty sure we will have classes with the direct entry masters students. a friend of mine is in that program right now, she just took her nclex. she has nothing but great things to say about the school and the program. the professors are great, the clinical opportunities are great, the reputation of nurses from simmons is very good, etc. you do need to meet the graduation requirements of simmons undergrad students, so you have to fulfill their general education requirements. when i got my TCE, mine were all covered (i had similar gen-ed requirements at my college). you can appeal credits if you think you have something that fills the requirement, i've had to go through that with some of my prereqs. so far all have counted! what other programs are you considering?

Does anyone know of any online Intro to Psych classes that fulfill the Simmons requirement? Or does anyone know of any online intro classes that are quick, preferrably that could be complete by the end of June? Thanks!

hi

have either of you received any more information about the program? i was wondering when it starts exactly, i did not get anything back since i sent my deposit. do you think we will have an orientation? also have you heard anything back from the financial aid office?

I haven't heard anything about orientation yet.

I'm taking my last pre-req starting tomorrow so I wont have to take it during Summer Session 1, that way I can work for longer before the start of the program and save more $$!!

If anyone hears anything about orientation - please post!

i haven't heard anything about orientation. our deposit was due in monday, so we might not hear back until the send the second round of acceptances? i just got my financial aid packet this week, so check the mail for yours. have any of you been able to register for classes yet? i'd really like to take care of that early so i can get the lab sections i want. i can't wait to start, i'm getting so antsy!

How was your financial aid package jmbia? Did you get more or less than you thought you would?

i've never gotten financial aid before, so i don't really have much to compare it to. i thought i would just be getting loans, but i ended up getting a grant for a portion of the tuition. i haven't submitted my official fafsa (with my 2009 tax documents), so they just sent me a hypothetical package based on the tentative version of my fafsa. its better than i expected, but again, i don't have any comparison.

mine was pretty good, the only problem is I have to start in mid-May in order to complete Organic Chem, so that means quitting my job really soon and saving less for living expenses. I also got into MCPHS but with my Simmons package they're about the same cost, although I could work for longer if I go to MCPHS (since it doesn't start until Jan) and I could save more for living expenses. I'm really torn on what to do here!

i've heard AMAZING things about simmons. they have a great reputation in the boston area hospitals and if you play your cards right, you can get jobs through connections you make at your clinical rotations. however, i'm biased, simmons was the only program i applied to because i knew it was where i wanted to go! i don't know very much about the program at mcphs.

You're definitely right: setting yourself up for a good job is so important, especially nowadays when new grad RNs can't find a job anywhere. I just get nervous about taking out a lot in living expenses, but the difference will probably be about $10k in living expenses which isn't that huge if it means I get a job months sooner after school!
