Boston New Grads Who Got Hired...What Helped??
Thank you all so much for the helpful replies!! Keep them coming please! I've applied for numerous PCA jobs but I just revamped my resume in anticipation of preceptorship stuff so hopefully the new resume might help me with the PCA job apps. I also just hit up my clinical instructor to see if she could be helpful in my trying to find a PCA job (since one of the ones I applied for is in another floor of the unit she works on). Maybe she could put in a good word, I know she really likes me and I'm really dilligent/conscientious @ clinical.

Boston New Grads Who Got Hired...What Helped??
Graduating in December with a 2nd degree BSN from a well respected Boston area college. I have a 3.9 gpa, great recommendations (hopefully more to come as I finish the program), Dean's list, Sigma Theta, am willing to work anywhere within driving distance from the Boston area. For those of you that got hired, what do you think it was that set you apart? I'm already anticipating a pretty tough struggle!

new RN - income questions
I'm just curious about how much the extra rate is for new RNs in the Boston area who decline healthcare coverage and benefits? I get it thru my husband's work. (don't get me wrong, I'd take whatever they'd pay me if I was lucky enough to get a job!!)

MGH salary
I'm curious- how are the rates for RNs who do non-benefitted?

New RN very nervous about starting out in L&D
Wow where do you live?! I'm so jealous, I graduate in December but don't really have high hopes about being hired as a new RN into L&D! Good luck!!!

MGH is offering new grad ICU internship for $11.44 an hour?
Soon to be new grad here (December)....2nd degree BSN, nearly a 4.0 gpa, Sigma Theta, great recommendations..........I'd take this residency @ MGH in a heartbeat, with a big fat smile on my face ($11.44 an hour or not!).

anyone applying to the simmons dix scholars program?
No I took Chem 2 elsewhere. What did everyone get for shoes? We need to have white nursing shoes....I got a pair of Crocs Specialist in white and a pair of Nike Shox in white (I had to buy the kids ones though because they were the ones that were more completely white).

anyone applying to the simmons dix scholars program?
Hey NeNe, I did wind up applying to WellsFargo and got a great rate! I canceled the Discover loan and went with WellsFargo - thanks again for the recommendation! After they take off the additional .75% at graduation, my rate is 4% less than it was w/ Discover! :)

anyone applying to the simmons dix scholars program?
Darn it! That is way cheaper - I think I still can cancel discover and go with that one instead though. What was your rate, if you don't mind me asking?

anyone applying to the simmons dix scholars program?
I was the one who was also looking at Curry but really never considered it as much as I was considering Simmons, and I did decide to go to Simmons. Our orientation is June 21. You should've gotten your financial aid package already...I think. Question for anyone who's already been accepted and is going: What shoes are you buying? In that email we got it said white professional shoes, white sneakers are fine too. I don't know what to buy! Also - we have to have our stethoscope ordered before orientation, so I think I'm going to buy mine online....it has to be the Littman Classic S.E. I found it in a pink/purple color, do you think that's OK? So excited/nervous!!!!

anyone applying to the simmons dix scholars program?
Yes you definitely can get financial aid. I got some grant/scholarship, and some federal loans. I just did my private loan this weekend (I went w/ Discover, the rate was OK - about 9%, not great but I hear the going rate for private loans is 12% these days so I guess that's better that that). Call the financial aid office, they're really nice and very helpful.

That's weird, if they are looking for your financial aid docs I think you must've gotten in. Are you positive you were not accepted? Why would they want that stuff if they weren't accepting you?? They're really nice there, if you call I bet they'll help you out!

anyone applying to the simmons dix scholars program?
Anyone who's gotten in and planning to attend? I just got my email with all the registration instructions, etc. (check your Simmons email account, not your personal). Just wondering if there are any future Simmons ladies on here! :) Can't wait!!!! :)

I'm starting in July too. I haven't heard anything about registering or that CPR class but I'm going to inquire. A girl I know who is going to MGH is taking her CPR now (in advance of starting the program) so I feel like that might be a good idea to do.

Any Curry College or Simmons College Accelerated BSN Students???
I'm considering these 2 schools and am wondering if there are any current or past students out there of either of these programs?? My questions are: Curry Students: Approx how much was the program? How about clinical fees? Also - what time of day were your classes? Simmons Students: How much were your clinical fees? Do you feel that most grads of Simmons are able to find jobs after school? I've heard they are a great program and well liked by area hospitals (i.e. Simmons nurses are in a good position after school to find a job). Help!!!
