I'm a nervous wreck! I sent in my application a few weeks ago and now begins the long wait! I've searched all the threads on this site for Navarro information and have seen a lot of posters saying they didn't get into the program on their first try. I attended one of the very first information sessions back in October and there weren't that many of us, but the instructor said they usually have 500+ applicants! I know that's pretty standard for NS programs, but what type of chance does that leave me?!
Here's my stats: GPA 3.8
I got as many of the points as I possibly could: A's and B's in pre-req's and I've taken all the "suggested courses" too so that's a few more points each.
My TEAS score was a 90.5. I think she said the cutoff was 87.5, so that puts me just over their cutoff for even looking at the app. I just don't know what else I can do if I don't get in. I guess I'd go back and re-take AP 1 and 2 and try to get A's.
Anyone else care to share their experiences and what got you into Navarro or that you're applying this year and waiting with me?
Hi Katie! Oh boy, do I remember what you're going through! The wait seems like forever! I'm not sure of my final points, they didn't tell us that, so I'm no help there. Sorry. What is your GPA, what extra points did you get and what is your TEAS score? If you want to share that, I can maybe give you an idea of where you'll be placed. Did they mention how many applications they've had? Last year they said it was like 550+ and we started class in August with 76. We've lost 11 students since then. I'm surprised it's taking them so long to get the acceptance letters out. It can be a little unorganized at times, which is frustrating. When you get to 10 or 15 posts, I think you can send private messages on here. If you want to PM me, I can give you more information about the program-or my opinions really. :) Good luck! Keep me updated on how it goes for you-hopefully I'll see you in the fall!
Thanks for responding!!
I went to the 1st info session back in October and was told that the "points system" changed since the 2011 program. GPA has no affect anymore. My TEAS Score was 84 and the national "mean" was 70.5 so I hope I'm good on that because we were told not to apply if we didn't score above the "mean" I had already completed AP 1 and AP 2 with an A and B so that gave me 2 points, one for each course and 7 for the grades - 4 for A and 3 for B. I got 5 points for the county (Navarro) and 5 for healthcare certification (Phlebotomy Tech) so that got me to 103/151. At the info session we were given a copy of the scoring sheet they use to determine scores. Right now I am taking Microbiology, Psychology, Algebra and Orientation. For the 2nd 8wk courses I am going to add Nutrition and Diet. I'm sure none of that matters though, because application deadline is Feb1st and i won't get credit for all those classes until May.
I'll better get to "posting" because I really want to PM you for your opinions!!
THANKS AGAIN :)
I just took the TEAS V yesterday. I got 85.7%, which is in the 89th percentile and is higher than the national average (which was something around 71%). My total points as of now are 102/151, but after I finish A&P II, Micro, Human Lifespan Development, and Nutrition Diet Therapy this semester, i'll have around 116/151. My GPA is 3.93 (4.0 for sciences and english). Is this good enough to get in on the first try? It seems like I've already waited forever and I JUST TOOK IT! Also, does Navarro have preference for guys who apply? Thanks in advance for helping me!!!!!
@Katie: Hopefully we'll get in! :) If you ever want to talk about this stuff, just message me. It's always nice to have a friend or some sort of support to help through the long, anguishing wait.
It sounds like you'll be in the top of the applicants but you never know for sure. It all depends on the group applying. I don't think they can have a preference, legally, although there are several guys in our class. There are 65+ girls and I think 5 guys, so you're outnumbered but I don't think they mind much. :)
Hi Tim,I can't pm you because you haven't "posted" enough.... I think you have to do like 15 before pm is enabled...anyways, looks like we have the same score :) hopefully its high enough to get accepted!!! I am pretty sure, almost positive actually that the classes you are taking right now don't affect your score because the deadline was yesterday and we won't get credit for spring2012 classes until may. I am so anxious to find out if I'm in or not because Navarro is the only program I applied for. They recommend applying for both ADN and LPN incase you don't get into ADN but I didn't. I wanna be an RN and a don't wanna go LPN and then bridge to get there.
well i'll start posting so you can! i only applied for the adn program too (i don't wanna settle any less than what my goals are). i'm really really anxious as well!!!!!!! are we finding out in may?
i did hand deliver the application. there was this new lady (said she'd was new at the job...she was the one who was taking the applications). i asked for her opinion on my score and she said it was really good. but she didn't know how many people applied.
do you think we should email one of the nurses in charge of the program and ask? i don't want to bother them (i'm sure everyone is asking), but my curiosity is getting the best of me. i like to have all the #'s so i can at least have a good idea of if/when i'll get in.
I think the letters go out at the same time..... not 100% sure though.
Ugggggggggh the wait is KILLING ME!! LOL and it has only been 3 weeks past the deadline
But I do know that any courses we are taking this semester do NOT count towards our admission points.
(Page 56 of the 2012-2013 NC Catalog- states "courses completed prior to application deadline")
I know!!!!!!!!!!! I've been looking at other programs and options just to keep my mind off of the wait.
Do you think that it will kill our chances of getting in? Also, if I am doing A&P II and Micro this semester (not done), will they assume that I'll pass and send an acceptance letter, or do I have to wait until the next semester for applying?
If I don't get accepted next semester, I have 4 choices:
1. stay on the RN pathway and take chemistry/stats to get more points for the next semester when I apply.
2. change my degree plan to pre-bsn (I'm almost done with it) and take chemistry and a few other classes).
3. Apply to El Centro and take my chances there.
4. Apply to the Bachelors Degree Program at UTA.

Hi Mom/Nurse2B
I wanted to ask you a few questions.... how you are liking the nursing program at Navarro so far? I applied for the 2012 ADN-RN program at Navarro and can't find any reviews online about it. Also, I was wondering what your final point score was on your application? Mine is 103/151 and I know that the acceptance score varies year to year depending on who applies etc. I am just curious. I am so nervous :/ I haven't applied to any other colleges and didn't apply to the Navarro LVN program either, but am questioning myself if I made the right move.... I hand delivered my application to Ms.Stroud and she said they won't be sending out letters of acceptance/rejection until the END of May
The application deadline is Feb 1st, Why does it take so long to add up scores? Grrrr
Any info would be MUCH appreciated!!!
Thankyou.
