Anyone applying for Navarro ADN Fall 2011?

Published

I'm a nervous wreck! I sent in my application a few weeks ago and now begins the long wait! I've searched all the threads on this site for Navarro information and have seen a lot of posters saying they didn't get into the program on their first try. I attended one of the very first information sessions back in October and there weren't that many of us, but the instructor said they usually have 500+ applicants! I know that's pretty standard for NS programs, but what type of chance does that leave me?!

Here's my stats: GPA 3.8

I got as many of the points as I possibly could: A's and B's in pre-req's and I've taken all the "suggested courses" too so that's a few more points each.

My TEAS score was a 90.5. I think she said the cutoff was 87.5, so that puts me just over their cutoff for even looking at the app. I just don't know what else I can do if I don't get in. I guess I'd go back and re-take AP 1 and 2 and try to get A's.

Anyone else care to share their experiences and what got you into Navarro or that you're applying this year and waiting with me? :yeah:

We were told at the info session I went to in November, that they would email results this year by April 1st. Did anyone else hear that? I wrote it down so I'm thinking I heard correctly lol. Anyone applying to the bridge?

Dreamer- yes, that's what we were told at the info session in October as well. Mid April at the latest. But when I handed my application packet in I was told the end of May.... I'm applying to the generic program. If I don't get accepted, I will do he EMT basic course this summer and the Paramedic program in the fall to keep busy, then apply again for the 2013 program. Tim- I don't think it will drastically change our odds of being accepted. Right now, we have the same score :) you have until the admission date to complete the pre reqs so that's not an issue... That's why there's an alternate list, so if someone that's initially accepted fails to complete the requirements before admission then they remove them and call an alternate to fill their spot. It happens a lot too. I remembr at the info session they said that last year only a few people from the alternate list were not given a spot. I don't have any options besides Navarro though :/ I live 15 mins away from campus and have a family. I can't just pack up and move for schools :( soooo wish that I could!!

That's good. I was under the impression that there is this long waiting list of the past people who didn't get in because a specific amount are let in. You might try looking at TWU College of Nursing Home - TWU College of Nursing - Texas Woman's University they have this option called the weekend program where you do clinicals on weekends and go to class on fridays for 4 hours (might be good since you have family, would save on gas as well; I assume you could do clinicals at a closer facility). I hope there are other options for you (the only nursing schools that I know of that are remotely close are Navarro, El Centro, UT Arlington, TWU, and the new West Coast University in Dallas), that way you can have your choice.

So we will find out sometime between mid April and the end of May? Either way, we'll all have learned a lesson in patience. :thankya:haha

I have started a new thread for the 2012 ADN Applicants on allnurses.com

Navarro ADN-RN program Fall 2012

And.... I did look into the West Coast University Dallas... OMG the cost is outrageous!! $105,000 for a BSN. There are no waiting lists etc, but seriously... I refuse to pay over 10x the cost!!

The application deadline for Fall 2012 already passed (Feb 1) for TWU and there are no Spring admissions for 2013.

The application deadline for TVCC was Dec 1st (TVCC is about an hour from where I live)

Thank you for the suggestions though :) Much appreciated...

I am praying every night that I get accepted to the Navarro 2012 program (which honestly does no good, the applications are submitted and the scores aren't going to magically change LOL) But, I am also trying not to worry too much because my mom always said "worrying about something is like praying for what you don't want."

My backup plan as of now is : take EMT Basic (at Navarro) this summer and the Paramedic program (at Navarro) in the fall (if I'm not accepted) and then apply again for the 2013 program......
