anyone applying to CU for 2010?

Published

Is anyone going to put in their application this fall for Spring or Summer 2010?. I'm excited about finally getting to put in my application, I'll be attending the August 1st info session and be applying for the summer session. I will still be taking pre-reqs in the spring and I was so relieved when I found out I don't have to have everything finished to apply. My GPA is currently 4.0 and I should (I hope!) be able to keep that up until next spring. I'll be done all my sciences at the end of this summer semester and only have a couple math, a history and a pile of social sciences to do (music appreciation anyone!). The admission essay is making me nervous, but I have lots of time to work on it - I hope my GPA helps me out and they don't rely on essay alone.

I'd love to be in contact with anyone looking to get into CU.

BTW - I was going to go to DSN, but changed my mind since I decided to retake some old classes, and since we're paying for our own kids to go to college at the same time, needed to keep the cost down.

Still no letter today. I left 2 voicemails and finally spoke to a receptionist who put me in touch with someone. Turns out they have my address wrong. I am livid considering I sent emails back in early March asking them to verify my address and put my correct address at the bottom of every email. I hope you have better luck than I do. Of course they couldn't tell me anything over the phone so now I will have to wait several more days.

Wow, that's unbelievable! I would be so angry, too. My mail came today, and still no letter. I verified my address with Connie on Monday, so I know they have the right one. I'm getting very nervous. It seems too strange that everyone else on this thread received letters more than a week ago.

Hello Everyone -

I really hope those of you that haven't heard back will get replies SOON! The waiting is excruciating. I wish nothing but the best for you guys and hope you all get in. I got my letter about a week 1/2 ago...I applied for the Summer Accelerated and was given Spring 2011 Traditional. I have another offer at NAU for an accelerated program so there may be a spot open if I cannot get some questions answered regarding the background check. For those of you who are admitted, or have had some experience with UC Denver, I would love some feedback.

First off, I am ECSTATIC to have been admitted, however, now I am worrying myself sick thinking of the background check. You see, several years ago (first year of College, young and dumb), I was busted for a DUI/Driving while endangering another person/Reckless Driving. I completed a diversion program and all of the charges were DISMISSED. However, I know that these offenses will still show up on the background check (as DUI Diversion - Dismissed).

My question is this : Is there anyway that I will not be allowed to participate in the nursing program (clinicals) because of my background? So far I am choosing UC Denver over another college AND moving all the way from Alaska to attend, so if I move to Denver and then not allowed to start/complete the nursing program, I will be devastated. Has anyone out there had any experience with this, especially with UC Denver?

I have already put in a call to the UC Denver office, however the lady who can help me is out of town. In the meantime, I was hoping for some feedback and piece of mind regarding this issue.

Thank you in advance for any replies!

klclapper - congrats on being accepted!! I really don't know about your specific question, but have you looked at the student handbook? I know there is some info in there about the background checks, so you might find it helpful: http://www.nursing.ucdenver.edu/pdf/2009-10StudentHandbook.pdf

Question for anyone else who might know:

I know that the deposit to hold your spot has to be postmarked by tomorrow and I want to send it in, but I am still not positive that I will be able to attend. I was wondering if anyone knows what happens if you send in the deposit and then decide later that you cannot attend? Will you be able to back out and are there any consequences for doing this (besides losing the deposit, of course)? I'm worried that doing this might show up later as dropping out of a nursing program, which might look bad... Does anyone know?

Hi All!

I found out something interesting in regards to call backs. One of the girls in my Microbiology class got a call back (answered the phone right when they called) and got in! The other girl got a call (didn't answer it, she missed the call..they didn't leave a message) so she called them back to see if it was the Nursing School, sure enough it was but since she didn't answer the phone when they originally called she was S.O.L..they basically move on to the next person if you don't pick up!!! So ladies/gents who are on the call list, keep your phones on you! I thought this was crazy!! When she talked to the admissions person about it, the lady said to make sure you are always by your phone and you could possibly get another call back in the future (she was rolled back into the list) ... OMG I feel so bad for her!! Just thought everyone would like to know! Crazy, crazy, crazy!:eek::eek:

stellagirl--thanks for the info. Looks like that rumor is indeed true, unfortunately for everyone on the call list. It is stressing me out that I might be in the car or the shower or doing laundry, whatever and not hear the damn phone! Then again, I could keep my phone w/ me for the next 2 months and never hear a thing. Torture!

The reason they move on if you don't answer is because the call list is not in order, but "qualified candidates without ranking to be called randomly."

Oh my goodness this is crazy! I am so glad I found this forum before I apply!!! Thanks everyone for all the helpful info!

Hi everyone...I may be the girl in the microbiology class that missed the phone call the first time that she is talking about. (maybe, maybe not) It was the worst feeling ever. I missed a call on a Sat afternoon. I'm happy to report that I received another phone call yesterday morning and accepted a spot for summer. So if you miss a call don't give up. It was 5 days of torture but gladly it didn't last too long. I was turning into a crazy phone junkie :) Good luck everyone. Keep your phone by you!!!

Violet808: I am so glad that they called you back!! :) If it is you (I sit in front of you in Micro), right? I hope you don't mind that I shared your story, I wanted to make sure that everyone knew to have their phones on them at all times! Did they give you an accelerated spot??

My Essay: I put a lot of emphasis in my cultural experiences in China. I also talked about my volunteer experience at National Jewish Health. I discussed my passion for knowledge, and passion to help others. If anyone is interested..I can email it to you.

Oh, and no previous bachelor's degree.

Me me!! Can you PM me and I will send you my e-mail address?

I wasn't given a ranking, from what I understand it's just a pool and they will review the applications if/when spots become available.

Is this true? I also got a rejection letter and mailed my letter to be included in the next pool. Does this mean that they may include my application for their call-list?

Why is it thay they don't tell you your ranking/
