Is anyone going to put in their application this fall for Spring or Summer 2010?. I'm excited about finally getting to put in my application, I'll be attending the August 1st info session and be applying for the summer session. I will still be taking pre-reqs in the spring and I was so relieved when I found out I don't have to have everything finished to apply. My GPA is currently 4.0 and I should (I hope!) be able to keep that up until next spring. I'll be done all my sciences at the end of this summer semester and only have a couple math, a history and a pile of social sciences to do (music appreciation anyone!). The admission essay is making me nervous, but I have lots of time to work on it - I hope my GPA helps me out and they don't rely on essay alone.
I'd love to be in contact with anyone looking to get into CU.
BTW - I was going to go to DSN, but changed my mind since I decided to retake some old classes, and since we're paying for our own kids to go to college at the same time, needed to keep the cost down.
Thin letter for me too.
Sand_Dollar - I'm sorry!! :redbeathe I took a hiatus from the forum after I submitted my rejection status :) I logged in to see if anyone else had posted their results and saw your other messages. . .
"Oh COJade80, I'm sorry.
Do you have your plan B already figured out? I honestly figure I'll be pulling mine out of the folder on Monday, so I can understand where you are coming from."
Thanks Sand_Dollar! My next move is to send in the form to be placed on the call list and have my application rolled over. At the end of this semester I'll have the pre-reqs I need to apply to Metro and Regis so I'm feeling OK.
It sounds like you have plenty of options lined up for yourself as well. Good Luck to you!
Sorry for all those who did not get accepted but it sounds like most of you have some good plan B options. I applied to 5 schools and received 3 rejections and 2 acceptances. In reading some of these forums I realize there is no magic equation that gets you in, each school seems to have their own criteria and things that "speak" to them. I also think they sometimes take a little from each "type" out there, since so many of us come from different backgrounds. That said, I know I wanted to know the stats on who was accepted when I was applying, so here is my run down:
Undergrad GPA: 3.4
Pre-reqs: 4.0
Healthcare: 1 year as hospice care volunteer
Other volunteer: Court Appointed Advocate for abused and neglected kids (4 years), Adaptive sports lesson assistant for disabled sports ski program (1 season).
Work: 9 years in corporate environment, last two years as a manager
Essay: First one about a Samoan woman I met through hospice living in subsidized housing who was very nervous about me caring for her mother (and we both ultimately decided it would not work - she was not ambulatory and she wanted me to practically carry her to the bathroom). Second one about my volunteer and career experiences and bringing them together for a basis into the multi-facet needs of healthcare. 3rd one, critical thinking about cutting $2.5K from a $3 million budget I was managing for our Sales Conference. Required a lot of colloboration with our partners and creative ideas.
I have heard in California they are increasing their admittance of out of state applications to get more money (our tuition is about 3x as much). So it may have been more competitive for the CO pool (I am from CA). Sorry this is so long, but hope it helps some of you. Congrats to those who got in, and good luck to everyone, it is an involved process but I have faith that it will work out the way it is meant to for each of us!
FML, I got the tiny envelope today. I applied to 5 schools, heard back from four so far: rejected at UCD, SUNY Stony Brook, and Seattle U; wait-list at Vanderbilt. STILL waiting on the University of New Mexico....there's been about a month-long delay in hearing from them. Now I'm really going nuts!
My stats:
Undergrad GPA: 3.4 (BA 2009 in Art History from Rhodes College, Memphis, TN)
Pre-req: 3.7
1 year volunteer in Level 1 ER
Own a petsitting business, started in '97, worked numerous other corporate jobs during summers off, etc.
Studied abroad at Oxford University
Rhodes Fine Arts Fellow
Anyone else feel like quitting? I've never felt so down in my life-- how any of you all feeling the same way get through it? Right now, I just want to quit, which is so not me...

 I am so sorry to hear that Meredith09! Never ever give up! Nursing school is do difficult, but you also want to find the school that is right for you and your experiences.
Would you mind sharing what you wrote your essays on?

I haven't posted since my announcement of my denial because I have been dusting myself off and deciding exactly what I'm going to do next.
I won't let this keep me down and neither should you! If you really want to be an RN, then there are many different avenues to get there. You just need to find the one with your name on it, even if it seems hidden right now.
I am going to take more classes and apply at another University. However, I'm not stopping there. I am also going to apply at a couple ADN programs. So what if it's not a BSN, I will still be an RN. If I still want that BSN so badly, there are LOTS of online bridge programs to take once I get my license. And, if this new plan fails, then I will do this again next spring. I changed my signature to reflect my determination... NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER!
From the schools I see you have applied to, you're looking only at BSN programs, and willing to travel to get to the school. What about looking at rural CC's, competitive ADN programs, hospital programs (my friend just got into one in CT) and other, less known, universities? All those universities are great ones, but just because a nursing school isn't famous doesn't mean it isn't good.
If you let this keep you down, then you have lost. But if you set your jaw, do your homework and start fresh tomorrow... you ARE going to be an RN.
YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Thanks for the encouragement, Sand Dollar. Seattle U and Vandy are both actually MSN programs--Nurse Practitioner is my goal, so a BSN is really about as low as I am willing to start, because if I didn't start there, it would take me waaaay too long to get to be an NP. Where I really want to go is Vanderbilt (I applied for the Acute Care NP specialty; it's also in the same state where I did my undergrad and thus I have lots of friends as well as family there). As far as the ADN programs, I've actually heard they are more difficult to get into at the moment, with wait lists several years long in many cases (not to mention expensive--I'm already crushed by student loans, so if I'm going to drop a boat load of dough on another degree, I would prefer it to be as close to the terminal degree I plan to get....) Ultimately I know I won't give up, but I have to say that it is extremely disheartening to have worked so hard to graduate from a great college and feel like it was all for naught.... I think a lot of this is extraordinarily bad timing with all the schools and hospitals feeling the financial strain of the times, too. Ugh. Tequila time, I say (for now)!
Meredith, a little more food for thought if the WL at Vanderbilt doesn't come through is reapplication. I know a year sounds like a long way away but you are young. I am older but was still considering this as an option for me. I have had a few friends do this before me and it all worked out. A lot of the direct entry MSN programs are good about giving extra considertation to reapplicants. And if there is really a program that speaks to you, I say go for it, WL is a good sign they want you.
Am I right in thinking that some people received outright rejection letters and some received call list letters? I'm on the call list for CU, but I got accepted into CSU-Pueblo's accelerated nursing program. I also know that NJC and Ft. Morgan have RN programs and I bet there isn't much of a wait. Just wanted to mention that in case people didn't know about it. I also got into CSU's OT program. Now I have to decide which is better for me- nursing or OT.
Best of luck to everyone. I'm leaning towards OT, so that's one more space at Pueblo for someone.:)
Hola! Not sure if anyone is still following this thread, as it sounds like everyone has already received a letter from CU. I was just wondering if there's anyone else out there who still hasn't received notification yet? I expected a letter last Saturday and have been checking my mailbox every day after work in vain. I'm losing my mind!
Congratulations, by the way, to everyone who was accepted! And to those of you who weren't, I feel your pain. I got my rejection letter from OHSU on Monday and spent the evening in tears. Rejection sucks. Fingers crossed for good news from Denver...
