Anyone applying to ACC (Austin Community College) or Temple College for Fall 2008???

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm new to allnurses community but just recently turned in my applications to both Austin Community College and Temple College.

I've not applied to ACC before and was turned down last year by Temple but I did really bad on the NET compared to other students (only a 74 composite) so I wasn't suprised to have been rejected. This year I did much better so I'm hoping the tides will turn..... I'd really like to get into ACC because it is closer to home but at this point I'll take either!!!

Oh well, just wanted to say hello and see if there are any other wanna be nursing students, like myself, living in the Austin, TX area waiting to know what their futures holds :-)

Take care and have a great evening!

Hi there!

I'm in Austin and taking prereqs at ACC. It's looking like I won't be able to apply until January of 2010 for fall of 2010. :o If I apply to UT's alternate master's program and get accepted, I could start summer of 2010, but that would mean leaving my dauther home alone all summer. I'm really hoping to get into ACC.

Good luck to you! I hope you get good news in the mail!

I've been taking pre-reqs (both at ACC & Temple) since early 2005... I had to do it one class at a time and now I'm done with everything and am taking my final pre-req (RNSG 1105) this semester.

I wish I had the patience to go the BSN/UT route but I feel like I've been working on this for so long already and I just want to get the show on the road.

What a tough decision regarding leaving your daughter at home alone during the summer. Maybe you could work something out so she could stay with a friend at least part of the time???

Either way, good luck with your studies. The good news is ACC supposedly doesn't have near the waiting list as in previous years which should be good for both of us.

Also, by 2010, Texas State is supposed to have their nursing program running in Round Rock at the Round Rock Higher Education Center... you might check into that as well.

Well, nice to 'meet' you and have a good evening :)

I'm also applying to Temple College. I transferred from ACC due to the long wait. I really didn't want to wait until the Spring of 09 to start NS. I've taken all of my prerequisites, and core classes. All that is left for me to do is wait, wait, wait.

Johanna Quest,

Did you apply to ACC?

I didn't apply to ACC. I don't want to wait until next year to apply, an then possibly be wait listed.

Hi- hope its ok to jump in here, I am taking pre-reqs at ACC. I am so excited to see other ACC students on here. This semester I am taking Stats and Human Developement. This summer I plan on taking Anatomy (summer 2 fast course) and then next Fall will be Micro, Physiology and Pharmacology.

Any tips on good profs?

I have a BA in Journalism and this is a second career, I am a mom of three, so scheduling classes has been such a challenge! I have also stressed over trying to figure out if I should get my ADN at ACC, BSN at Tech or AE MSN. My long term goal is FNP. I have come to the conclusion that I will get my ADN, work for 2 years and then (hopefully) go to UT for their MSN-FNP program. This is the least expensive route too. Just trying to take it on class at a time.

Have any of you looked into the GAIN program? What type of work, pay etc..?

Thanks in advance for any tips, I look forward to chatting....

I'm applying to Temple now and ACC in June....ACC is a lot closer, so I am hoping to get in there. Does anyone know how the programs compare?

This is a comparison of NCLEX pass rates.... Aside from the pass rate, I've heard it is pretty much equal as far as getting a job when it's all said and done. I do hear more positive things about Temple from a student aspect.

I'm with you though..... I really want to get into ACC because it is closer. I'll certainly make Temple work if that is my only option.

Thanks for the info! Temple had a 100% pass in 2006 - that's pretty impressive. Did you apply for fall start at both colleges? I won't be eligible to apply @ ACC until June (when I finish micro) for spring 09 start. I'm living in Round Rock so ACC is preferable, but TC will start sooner. It's going to be a tough decision if I get accepted into both. Thanks again!

You are welcome... glad you found it helpful :)

Yes, I applied for both, hoping to get into one for the fall. I live in Pflugerville, so I'm with you as far as ACC being preferable. With gas prices the way they are, the commute would break me LOL

Either way, I'm playing the waiting game and it STINKS!!! I'm not sure what I'll do if I get into Temple since I think they send letters before ACC is supposed to. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Good luck w/ your Micro class... I hope you have a good prof who makes it fun and interesting. I had a horrible one who made the class an absolute nightmare. I ended up with an A by some miraculous act of God but I'll take it and be glad it is behind me.

I've heard that you pretty much have to know someone to get one of the spots and I think you have to have completed RNSG 1105 through ACC and then apply for a clinical asst. or patient care tech position through either Seton or St. David's ..... not sure about pay.

Here's the ACC link that gives more detail:

Hope this helps a little.... please let me know if you find out anything more specific.
