Anyone applying to ACC (Austin Community College) or Temple College for Fall 2008???

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm new to allnurses community but just recently turned in my applications to both Austin Community College and Temple College.

I've not applied to ACC before and was turned down last year by Temple but I did really bad on the NET compared to other students (only a 74 composite) so I wasn't suprised to have been rejected. This year I did much better so I'm hoping the tides will turn..... I'd really like to get into ACC because it is closer to home but at this point I'll take either!!!

Oh well, just wanted to say hello and see if there are any other wanna be nursing students, like myself, living in the Austin, TX area waiting to know what their futures holds :-)

Take care and have a great evening!

Hi Ginabanin!

I'm thinking of moving to either Austin or Houston to go to nursing school at either Houston or Austin Community College first to become an LPN then to move on to RN an so forth. I know Houston Medical center is one of the best and very large and the city of HOuston has alot of job possibilities for employment in the office environment before I graduate and get into nursing but i'm wondering how employment is in the Austin area. Are nursing jobs as in demand as they are in Houston there in Austin. Is ACC hard to get into? Any advice I would appreciate it.

Thanks

I took my NET today at Temple college. I made a 44 on my composite score! I know that is really bad!:crying2::banghead: I wish I would had done better and study for it! Now i regret taking it so soon. So what I am wondering is if i even have a chance at getting into the program?

Hey, don't be too discouraged. I got a 55 when I took it. Doing all the math w/o a calculator took a long time for me and I was a nervous wreck. I did a lot better on ACC's HESI test. Anyway, I didn't make it in with a 55 last time, but I start ACC in January. I hope you make it. Good luck!

Hi- hope its ok to jump in here, I am taking pre-reqs at ACC. I am so excited to see other ACC students on here. This semester I am taking Stats and Human Developement. This summer I plan on taking Anatomy (summer 2 fast course) and then next Fall will be Micro, Physiology and Pharmacology.

Any tips on good profs?

I have a BA in Journalism and this is a second career, I am a mom of three, so scheduling classes has been such a challenge! I have also stressed over trying to figure out if I should get my ADN at ACC, BSN at Tech or AE MSN. My long term goal is FNP. I have come to the conclusion that I will get my ADN, work for 2 years and then (hopefully) go to UT for their MSN-FNP program. This is the least expensive route too. Just trying to take it on class at a time.

Have any of you looked into the GAIN program? What type of work, pay etc..?

Thanks in advance for any tips, I look forward to chatting....

Heather

you have a ba in journalism? lol me too!! :) i got interested in nursing halfway through college and decided to give it a go after i graduated. i start at temple fall 09. :) good luck with everything!!

Dr Laura Juarez is tops in anatomy and teaches at SAC. :redbeathe If you plan on taking her for the six week summer class you might consider farming out the kids for those 6 weeks to relatives. You won't have time for anything but breathing.

Looks like a killer fall with 3 tough classes. No other options?

I had Dr Solis for Human Development--got an A but don't have any time for psychology with 150 different theories and all the Psyc PhD's disagreeing with each other on their own theories. None of them have it all together.

Hi!! I'm actually wanting to apply at TC for nursing. I'll have all the prerequisites done next semester. How does the point system work? I read they only look at the classes you've taken that pertain to the nursing school classes. So, If I make a bad grade in a class that doesn't pertain the the nursing curriculum they wont take that into account?? I'm so worried that a bad grade I have is going to come back and haunt me.
