When do we learn how to start an iv
We learn IV in Level II which I just started. My check off is Monday and after that I will be able to hang a primary, IVPB, push meds and start an IV with my clinical instructor present. I cannot believe there are so many programs out there that do not allow any of this.... I guess all I can say is, make the best of what you have and we all will learn the bulk of our nursing skills upon graduation and landing that first job!

Best NCLEX Review
I'm only level II but a friend of mine swears by www.hurstreview.com. It is an online study and she suggested that I get it over the summer between levels II and III (costs $300 for the 3 months, and then $50 per month anytime you need a refresher). The lady doing the review has a very southern accent so that may be a turn-off for some, but I'm from Texas so it doesn't bother me LOL Either way, she passed NCLEX on the first try, so that does say something! Good Luck!

What is your ACC (Austin Community College) Ranking?
Looks like my ranking was high enough!!! I got the ACC acceptance e-mail yesterday. WoooHooo! At first I was so excited and now the "oh my goodness what have I gotten myself into" phase has kicked in :-) PS: Just as a FYI, if you are an ACC student and think you didn't get the message, check your bulk e-mail folder before panicking since that is where I found mine (yikes!!). Not sure what made me check there but I'm glad I did!

What is your ACC (Austin Community College) Ranking?
emileth, I originally heard end of March, then June, then by next Monday and now by first of May.... who the heck knows! I'm hoping for another situation like last semester w/ no waiting list! I think they are just being overly cautious because last semester they led quite a few people to believe they'd be getting in and then couldn't get the staff is what the rumor is.... BUT, once again who knows what the real story is! Good luck and happy waiting

What is your ACC (Austin Community College) Ranking?
Just curious as to what the range is as far as rankings for ACC. Mine is 50.272727 and I have no idea if that is good or bad. I did just get a note from the ADN office saying "We are hoping to notify students by the beginning of May." Not going to hold my breath, but at least it will, hopefully, be earlier than June which is what I heard a few weeks ago! I wish I could be hypnotized to not think about acceptance/rejection letters until one actually arrives in my mailbox. Then if it's a rejection letter, I'd rather keep not remembering LOL Oh well, one day we'll all be RN's and look back on this and laugh.

Anyone applying to ACC (Austin Community College) or Temple College for Fall 2008???
As far as GPA goes.... mine for Temple is 3.8 and 3.7 for ACC. Last year I didn't get into Temple w/ a 3.4 gpa but I did horribly on the NET and that brought my score WAAAAY down so it's not just about GPA. For the love of christmas I'm just tired of waiting!!!! I think Temple usually sends letters mid to late May and I hear rumors that ACC should be sending something out in the next 2 weeks for the first 100-130 students accepted. They may take more than that if they get additional staff but I don't think we'll know if that happens until June. Good luck to all of you out there! Hopefully, we'll all know something soon :-)

Anyone applying to ACC (Austin Community College) or Temple College for Fall 2008???
I've heard that you pretty much have to know someone to get one of the spots and I think you have to have completed RNSG 1105 through ACC and then apply for a clinical asst. or patient care tech position through either Seton or St. David's ..... not sure about pay. Here's the ACC link that gives more detail: http://www.austincc.edu/health/rnsg/gain.php Hope this helps a little.... please let me know if you find out anything more specific.

Anyone applying to ACC (Austin Community College) or Temple College for Fall 2008???
You are welcome... glad you found it helpful :) Yes, I applied for both, hoping to get into one for the fall. I live in Pflugerville, so I'm with you as far as ACC being preferable. With gas prices the way they are, the commute would break me LOL Either way, I'm playing the waiting game and it STINKS!!! I'm not sure what I'll do if I get into Temple since I think they send letters before ACC is supposed to. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Good luck w/ your Micro class... I hope you have a good prof who makes it fun and interesting. I had a horrible one who made the class an absolute nightmare. I ended up with an A by some miraculous act of God but I'll take it and be glad it is behind me.

Anyone applying to ACC (Austin Community College) or Temple College for Fall 2008???
ftp://www.bon.state.tx.us/RN-5YR-06.pdf This is a comparison of NCLEX pass rates.... Aside from the pass rate, I've heard it is pretty much equal as far as getting a job when it's all said and done. I do hear more positive things about Temple from a student aspect. I'm with you though..... I really want to get into ACC because it is closer. I'll certainly make Temple work if that is my only option.

Anyone applying to ACC (Austin Community College) or Temple College for Fall 2008???
I've been taking pre-reqs (both at ACC & Temple) since early 2005... I had to do it one class at a time and now I'm done with everything and am taking my final pre-req (RNSG 1105) this semester. I wish I had the patience to go the BSN/UT route but I feel like I've been working on this for so long already and I just want to get the show on the road. What a tough decision regarding leaving your daughter at home alone during the summer. Maybe you could work something out so she could stay with a friend at least part of the time??? Either way, good luck with your studies. The good news is ACC supposedly doesn't have near the waiting list as in previous years which should be good for both of us. Also, by 2010, Texas State is supposed to have their nursing program running in Round Rock at the Round Rock Higher Education Center... you might check into that as well. Well, nice to 'meet' you and have a good evening :)

Roll Call - Introduce Yourselves, Texans!
Hello all! I'm a native Texan born and raised in Port Lavaca but I've lived in Pflugerville for about 12 years now. I'm married w/ 2 boys ages 8 and 12. I have a Health Administration degree from Texas State (SWT). I'm working on my second degree and hope to get into an ADN program at either Austin Community College or Temple College for Fall 2008. I'm not picky, I just want in a program and SOON! Supposedly, I'll here from Temple sometime in May and ACC sometime in June.... the wait is killing me!!! That's all for now. Nice to meet everyone... have a great evening!

Advice for ADN NS
Thanks for this post.... Very nice to hear encouraging words. I truly believe that whatever the task, a positive attitude is 99% of the battle! That's why I have a positive attitude that this year is my year. I WILL make it into a program by golly... and if not, I'll try, try again next round LOL Have a good night!

Anyone applying to ACC (Austin Community College) or Temple College for Fall 2008???
I'm new to allnurses community but just recently turned in my applications to both Austin Community College and Temple College. I've not applied to ACC before and was turned down last year by Temple but I did really bad on the NET compared to other students (only a 74 composite) so I wasn't suprised to have been rejected. This year I did much better so I'm hoping the tides will turn..... I'd really like to get into ACC because it is closer to home but at this point I'll take either!!! Oh well, just wanted to say hello and see if there are any other wanna be nursing students, like myself, living in the Austin, TX area waiting to know what their futures holds :-) Take care and have a great evening!
