Anyone age 35 and and up and a nursing student? (say hi)

Published

Hi: Is anyone age 35 plus a student besides me? My classmates are all the age of my children. I am 45.

I'm 38 and am on the waiting list for the nursing program for January. I'm in A&P now. There are many threads on this topic. Here's one that's 11 pages of us mature students. :)

Hi everyone! I'm 47; started my prereqs @ 45, and just started nursing classes this week. I'm in a 16 month ADN program, so graduation is December 2004. That is significant to me, because it will have been 30 years since I graduated from high school, plus my youngest child is also graduating from high school in '04.

I'm probably one of the oldest students in my classes, but since I have children in their late teens/early 20s, I can relate well to the students of that age. But I would say most of my classmates are in their early to mid 30s.

I am 42, and am so excited about learning since starting the prereq's last year! Nursing will be my second turn around the career block, as I've retired from computer network consulting. I am refreshened by learning something other than computer science, and could not have anticipated loving subjects like A&P as much as I do! I hope to be in our 2 year CC program this Jan. It's great to have the old gears turning again, and it keeps me in step with my 12 year old, who would have passed me up in math by now had I not flipped the 'on' switch! I will be finished with phlebotomy training, and will start clinicals in a couple weeks, which I decided to do for clinical exposure (certainly not $$$)!!! :roll

Well hello gang, yes I too am starting my BSN program and really looing forward to next year this time to really get started toward my goal which is CRNA, started in Nursing 25 years ago, went to ADN 6 years ago at the ripe age of 36, now @42 Mom of 6, 4 of which are over 21 and all in college, I am very proud that God has blessed me with the desire to continue on, so congrats to all of us over 35er's. Good luck to all.

I say "better late than never!!!!" I will be 31 when I graduate. I wish I would have done this right out of high school, but unfortunately I listened to everyone telling me it's not worth it and I would regret it. I am not listening to anyone elses opinions on my career choice, I am only listening to my heart.

I am 34 and feel like I should be babysitting mmost of my classmates...though I have formed a study group relationship with others in my age group (and I'm the youngest) and it works fabulously!! :rotfl:

We have to stick together and make it like everyone else....the teenie-boppers :roll

44 here! Just graduated LPN school this past June, now in RN ASN school. Will be 45 when done!

Do you think I am going thru a mid life crises like my ex?

I am 36, will be 37 in October. I am going to be starting pre-req's in January.

This will be a complete change of career for me. But, it's better late than never~!

Hello!

I am 36, will be 37 in Jan. This is my first semester of clinicals.

I am a bit overwhelmed and afraid it will only get worse!!! :- )

Hey y'all,

I'm 38 and 3/4s and I start my RN programme on Monday. Yes there are students there who are young enough to be my kids, but I like to think that 15 yrs work experience and 10 yrs of parenting are going to stand me in good stead.

can't wait to get started!

I'm 43, plan to graduate from the RN program in May. My class has a nice variety of ages, some very young (20-ish), 30s and 40s. I don't really notice the age difference. We all share a common interest and are all helping each other through this endurance test called nursing school! I've met a lot of nice people in my studies. As much as I'm anxious for it to be over so I can move on to a nursing job, I will miss the school when I'm done.

I fit into this category most of my classmates are either under 30 or over 45.
