Anybody LIKE working holidays?

Time and a half. No management. Patients/families almost grateful you're there.

Am I the only one that LIKES working holidays? ?

*** No but Columbus day, Presidents day, MLK Day and some others do. My health system recognizes 10 holidays and pays double time to work them. True not worth it on Thanksgiving and Xmas, but totaly worth it on the other holidays.

I'll happily work the "minor" ones for the most part...I've never had a bunch of traditions surrounding Labor Day, Memorial Day, etc. so I might as well make the extra money + holiday time (or, extra time that can be cashed out for even more money). I'm always a little sad to work on Thanksgiving or Christmas, but have usually found that with some creativity, I can plan an "alternate" holiday if I'm stuck at the hospital on the "real" day.

Is it bad that I actually forget what time of year Columbus Day falls on? That's how little I care about the holiday. I don't care for President's Day either, MLK Day is okay but it is in yucky January.

But I definitely agree. Thanksgiving and Xmas are the two holidays I would give an arm and leg for. The rest? Meh.

I work 3-11. I have to leave for work by 130. My family has numerous people who work in healthcare, state police or other industries that do not get Holidays off. If it is my Holiday to work ( we work every other, I have Thanksgiving off this year, work Christmas) my family will just eat a little early so I can eat with them. I do however miss the meal at my inlaws... which sometimes isnt so bad.

It depends on the holiday. I am more than willing to work new years eve and day. I have missed so many family holidays for so many years because of nursing and now that I have a nursing job that is salaried, I really appreciate having the holidays off to spend with my family.

not technically a holiday and I don't ever have a big party for it or anything, but I will never work another birthday again as long as I can help it.

I don't mind it. Sometimes it can be fun.

I'm working nights Christmas Eve and Christmas day... which will be a pretty nice increase on my next pay (double time and half + nights premiums)

I don't have kids or anything like that.

Just my mom and my cat right now lol :)

only downside is I'll be missing Christmas eve mass :sour:

upside is (lol) I have New Years eve and new years day off and am planning on taking a few vacation days after that

Thanksgiving is considered a "Winter" holiday. I know I worked Easter, the 4th, Memorial Day, and Labor Day this year, so I don't know what they will consider as summer holidays. It might be a new system or policy, I honestly don't know. I'll have my first anniversary in March.

I get double time so I have worked pretty much every Holiday over the last two years... and well.. it's not bad, but then again I don't have little ones at home. It sucked when I had to do it when they were little... which was a big reason I got out of the medical field back then.

i guess i dont care. holidays can be easy or some of the worst shifts ever. short staffing and alot of traumas and post ops. i dont live near any family or friends so i would just be at home watching tv which i prefer to working. we only get 1.5time and night shift only gets it on the shift where the majority of the time is on the holiday. we get holiday pay dec 24 not dec25. but everyone still has to work one of those although mysteriously some staff memebers work less holidays then others. i never eat from what other people bring in and rarely do the night shifters where i work bring anything in!

I like working New Year's eve, don't mind working New Year's day. Its just not my holiday, not my thing. I don't go out drinking or partying or anything, but I feel trapped in my apt. because if you do go out to do anything (shopping, eat dinner out, w/e) it's crowded and noisy. So, I don't go out and end up sitting in my apt. I enjoy going to work instead, get a day of work out of the way, let people who want to go out do so.
