Anybody applying to NVCC Fall 09?

Published

I am getting really excited to apply. Because I had to take CHM 101 this semester I will have to wait till May 11th before I can even turn in my checklist.

I am so glad I found this website! I too am a nova student and my major is nursing, I am applying for the nursing program 09'. To FutureRN, I applaud people like you who are able to juggle a family, working and goes to school- I think that's incredible. I read earlier that you were writing about the "Momentum 2+1", I just sent an email if there was anyway to have it "waived" for anyone who hadn't known about the program or just want to apply that way. I think that's the best and most reasonable thing to do, I mean come on 3 years and you get a bachelor's in nursing? plus you save so much money by going to nova. I keep reading that it's so competitive and what not, I mean is there anything you might have heard and I haven't? I heard from someone that there is no certain limit since there is a huge nursing shortage as it is. How far done are you with your pre requisites? this spring semester, I have everything done. I just have to do the tests and what nots. Have you taken tohe computer competency test? or the pre admission test? hope to get a response soon...

Doesn't hurt to ask, but the answer will probably be no. A few differences between the 2+1 program over the traditional program is that ur acepted intothe program, without nay of the prereqs completed, so maybe a less stressful, as you know ur already into the program and that you goto school durin gthe summer months, were us traditional students have it off. keep in mind you have to have a 2.75 GPA, no clue what that is with regards to grades. it is rather low, but I know a good pile of students that just manage to pass with a 78% each semester.

NVCC used to be a first come first served program, but that is no longer the case. It is now competitive, going by GPA,and other pre reqs, but that as probably different with the 2+1 program,as obviously one doesnt need those pre-reqs to get in! They could still base it one ur high school GPA,and the TEAS (enterance exam) A call/email to the school will confirm what one requires, the staff is great. best of luck

Sertis26--Let me know what their answer is. That would be great, but I highly doubt it. The good news is that even if you can get into the 2+1 program, GMU has a 1 year accelerated ADN-BSN program for RNs. That is my personal plan.

Thank you for your nice compliments but I don't work. Thank God! I wouldn't be able to handle that kind of stress.

As far as the competitive admission goes, I have not heard anything other than through researching here on allnurses. There really is no way to know so the best thing to do is shoot for the highest grades and test scores. Which is exactly what I have done.

I am currently taking my final pre-req-CHM 101, but am also taking Bio-ethics. And over the summer I am doing pharmacology and medical terminology online. And that is it for all the pre-reqs and supporting courses. I took some other classes through my last school that was required for their nursing program at that time so I have also taken history, nutrition, and ENG 112. I also have taken the computer competency and Hesi. As you probably know the new test is the Teas.

I am glad to find somebody else who is also applying to the Fall 09 program. I have been the one and only forever!

Yep, I got a respond and it says what Flame said, apparently they are for students without prior college credit. I was looking into that too. I remember particularly interested in RN-MSN program, did you see that one? Personally- I want to be a PA (Physician Assistant) and I'm using nova's nursing program as a stepping stone to become one, I plan to work pt as a nurse and working to get a bachelor's degree and then apply. I am currently taking HLT141 online and HLT250 (Pharmacology) with Dr. *******. We had our first test recently and he's a good teacher. HLT141 is not to bad either, it's pretty much basic review, since I'm guessing you already took nas161 and 162, you wont have any problems, its more of a review. How's bio ethics like? I'm taking just ethics online and I really like it. How was the Hesi like? I recently borrowed the study book from the library, is it hard? I hope to hear from you soon :)

I know, I'm glad I really did found this website, I like knowing I'm not the only one going through the same thing. How many classes are you taking? So how exactly does it work as RN? You go through the program, pass the test go to work...now where can you work? ICU, post op, clinic..or do you need extra schooling? Any idea? By the way...did you have any health care background prior? Would having health care experience prior to applying help your chances getting in the nursing program?

Ok.... I know this is my 3rd message, but FutureRn...or anyone who can answer it too.....should I go ahead and turn in my checklist even though it's not done?... I remember reading that you turned it and got it blank? I'm going to have everything ready before the deadline, but I wont have all my grades up til the end of the semester..and all the tests and what not...what did you do?

As a ADN RN, you can work pretty much anywhere at the hospital. Some hopsitals do want a BSN in some positions. But there are NVCC grads pretty much everywhere. Some units offer fellowships, where its almost like ur back in school, sort of on the jobtraining and gettign paid!

And no, having prior medical experience, wont get you into the program, yes i tmay help you during the program, but not getting. Its listed on the NVCC.edu site what the requirements are. It is just based on certain classes, and ur teas score, and the higher ur marks are, the better chance you have of getting in. Not everyone got in last year, which was the first yr of being competitive! best of luck

When you go on your first job interview, make sure you tell the employer that... they'll definitely want to hire you. :uhoh3:

I also want to be either a PA, or an MD! Well see how things play out. One step at a time. I also heard Dr. E is good but I am taking all my summer classes online because we are taking our son out of day care for the summer to save money. Bio-ethics is good. Are you taking it with Mrs. G? (there is only one!) I don’t want to name any names. I heard she is brutal when grading papers. Let me know how that works out for you. The Hesi was fine but you will be taking the Teas so don’t bother studying the Hesi study guide. Whatever you do don’t wait to take it, you need to leave yourself time to take it again, JUST IN CASE.

I would definitely turn in my checklist now, if I were you. That way on the last day of the semester, or whenever you turn in your checklist, it is mostly already filled out. You should get it back much faster. That is just my opinion. I did not get it back blank, I got it back everything signed off except for CHM, and a letter that said to keep everything and turn it back in at the end of the semester. They know that many people cannot turn in their checklists until after this semester because this is the last semester before the applications are due. And they know that grades come out over the course of a few days at the end of the semester. So, if they get your checklist early (i.e. May 8th) they will most likely hold it for a few days, until the grades are posted. Again, just my opinion.

I've just talked to the Med SS and advisers. They won't send you the application form until the checklist is complete.:(

In essence the application checklist is the application. If you haven't already figured it out the application process is a 2 step process. You must turn in your completed checklist and once that is fully signed off they will give you further instructions on how to apply.

What do you have left to complete? I am finishing CHM 101 this term and then I can turn it in.
