Anybody applying to NVCC Fall 09?

Published

I am getting really excited to apply. Because I had to take CHM 101 this semester I will have to wait till May 11th before I can even turn in my checklist.

It's official, I received my application checklist yesterday and it was approved. Tomorrow morning I am going to the post office to mail in my portfolio. I am so excited and nervous at the same time. Hopefully they send out the letters exactly 2 weeks or sooner after the deadline so that I don't have to wait forever! I am so nervous and I haven't even mailed it yet.

Specializes in none.

i just wanted to know does NVCC accept students based on their GPA? If so what is the cut off? I just wanted to know because I'm planning to attend NVCC in Spring 2010.

basically, the criteria of selection are GPA of prerequisites and TEAS. Previous studies may count, also permanent residents have priority over visa-holders. I've just got into the 2009Fall program, but I don't know what is the cut off. Good luck!

The cut off is 2.5 but as the above poster said, there are a few different ways that they rank people. Everything is posted on the website and in the information session.

Hi all! I'm another NVCC student, only much further behind. I will be starting my pre-reqs this fall. I am anticipating starting one of the accelerated programs sometime in 2011 (gulp)...sounds so far away, but since I'm still working full time (elementary school music teacher) while working on my pre-reqs, that is actually fine with me. I plan to get some of those general education courses out of the way early, as well.

I spoke with a career counselor at MEC today, and while I've lucked out in some areas (I have a BA and will get the english prereq as well as the humanities and speech classes waived) I'm way behind in biology. I did take chemistry in HS, so I'm hoping once I get all my transcripts in to get more good news.

I actually decided not to jump right into NAS 161...I'm going to start with taking NAS 150 (one of the prereqs for 161) since it has been ages since I've taken a biology course. And yes, I had it in HS, but for me, that was 15 years ago! The counselor said I could try to get approval, but I was worried about being behind and basically clueless. Then, I have 161 planned for Spring. I'm also taking the SDV prereq this fall. Five credits, but I think that will be enough for me while still working full time.

I look forward to learning some 'dos' and 'don'ts' from you guys!

Hi GretchenT,

Congrats on starting the process..it is a long one. I just wanted to offer my unsolicited advice on the NAS class. I just looked at the course description and from what I can tell you'd be learning all the same things in NAS150 that you'll be covering in NAS161. It's been about 15 years for me as well and even thou Bio doesn't come that easily to me, I managed to get an A (I had an amazing prof...). I did have a difficult time with the chemistry but as long as you're willing to put in the time (flash cards were my best friend) then you should be absolutely fine and you can save yourself a semester. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip! And also, for the prof's name...I will keep that written down!

Thanks for the PM NovaRN...I'm off to get my post count up so I can reply!

I got my official acceptance letter to the college in the mail today...made me feel so giddy...LOL, I don't think I was this excited the first time round! When (not 'if') I get into the nursing school, there might just have to be a party!
