I was wondering if there were any young african american travel nurses and which assignement did u enjoy the most? On my first assignment and I'm not enjoying myself. I want to know the best places to go.

I am traveling with AYA healthcare and I did endorse my license to TX...it took a while bc I am from Illinois so they took forever to verify my Illinois license..also the TX temp license took me exactly a month to receive when they say you'll receive in about 15 days..temp license lasts four months. Background check and everything is complete so I'm waiting on permanent licensure there.[/quote']

Did you have to take the NJE or some sort of test for the endorsement or was it just turning in all the appropriate papers?

There are a few of us heading to Austin in the next couple of weeks. Im from NC so I didn't have to worry about getting a Texas license since it's a compact state. What part of Texas are you interested in traveling to?

Austin Houston San Antonio Dallas are the cities I am really interested in

Unfortunately I had to take the test...it isn't completely terrible, but I failed by 1 missed question the first time, and the test cut off on me the second time...3rd time was a charm!

The test for Texas endorsement isn't hard. Don't waste your money for the extra programs to pass it. All the answers are on the BON website.

Does anyone have any insight on Houston, TX? More specifically East Houston.... Considering taking an assignment and just looking for info on the area

Who are you working with for an assignment NurseBoogie?? I've been trying to get to Houston for the past few weeks and it hasn't been so successful. I work in Oncology & it seems a bit more difficult to get something in this specialty over others.

I'm taking my first assignment to Sacramento CA starting May 19. I have already found housing, just trying to see if I'm going to ship my car or drive it. It's an 8 week contract and I may extend if the money is right. After that, I may head to either San Diego or Fresno and then hit up Dallas or Houston.

32. Never thought about traveling until it hit me that I wont be getting married and having babies anytime soon. I've been a nurse for 7 years but still feel like I'm not "skilled" enough. I just recently moved from med-surg to step down so that I can learn some things. I plan on doing some agency per diem work this summer too. I'm not to thrilled about leaving the comfort of my full time job with benefits to be traveler. Plus I own a home. So maybe next year around this time I will travel.

I am soon to be the big 4-0 and nursing is a second career for me, I've been a nurse for 5 years now. I'm an ER nurse and I work at two level one trauma centers. I have a soon to be 18 year old son who will be graduating high school and heading off to college. I am not married, never have been, and don't think I'll ever will be. I've raised my son, I also own a home and I'm ready to travel and I welcome new experiences. It will be extremely hard to leave my family, but I'm adaptable, and I'm staying PRN at my current home jobs, so I think I'll be ok.

I'm biting the bullet and heading to California (never been there, let alone work there) and I'm going on a 8 week contract. I've recently suffered a traumatic sudden loss in my family, and I just need to get away. I have realized that life is just too short to wonder about "I wish I would have....". Tomorrow is not promised, and for me, it's all about the experiences and the memories. It took me a good year to get prepared to travel.

Doing some per diem work at another hospital would be great for you, when I started working at another hospital other than my main job, I adapted quickly and realized it wouldn't be a hard adjustment for me to travel. Good luck and keep us updated!

I am starting an assignment in HOUSTON 5/27 for 13 weeks and I was wondering if there were any other RNs traveling there and would like to meet up?

I'm really interested in travel nursing in Cali I've only have 7months experience on a 24 month contract but after that I'm free to go. While I'm at my hospital I was wondering should try to just get on the LD floor that's what I'm passionate about..or stay on the med surg. Does it look better to have two full years of med surg or does it not matter if I went to a specialty floor? ThAnks!
