I was wondering if there were any young african american travel nurses and which assignement did u enjoy the most? On my first assignment and I'm not enjoying myself. I want to know the best places to go.
Interesting. I'm told that place is crazy busy and always short staffed (been told by several people to stay away for unsafe care in OB). This is the warning I got related to discrimination (not sure which unit she worked):
"Avoid Kapiolani like the plague. I left at the end of orientaion due to animosity from the natives. I can email you the letter I sent to my company if you would like. Two of the travelers who started with me stayed and are in the process of filing a discrimination suit against the hospital. One got physically ill from the stress. I had previously made friends with one of the night ANM's at Kapiolani when I was on Oahu working at Tripler. She has been there just shy of 2 years and is trying to get back on the mainland. She is blonde haired and blue eyed and has not been accepted by many of the staff."
Hello! I know that this post is kind of old but here goes.. I'm a young AA 25 yrs old. I have always wanted to be a travel nurse since before getting accepted into nursing school. My specialty is Med/Surg. The patients that we mainly get are surgical patients with a mix of everything else. I was a tech for a year on a Neuro floor before becoming a nurse. I've currently been a nurse for 10 months, my year will be up in January. Whoop Whoop!! I look forward to start traveling in February. I just turned in my application for endorsement in California today!! I'm excited and nervous at the same time. If anyone could give me some pointers (housing, agencies) on travel nursing that would be greatly appreciated! Also, what areas in Cali would you suggest? Thanks
This is a great thread! I'm a 26yo, female, AA nurse. I have a little over 2 years experience under my belt doing renal/telemetry/step down/med-surg/rehab. Looking to start some traveling next year! Anyone heading to TX, CA, or FL? I would like to stay south during the winter and travel with a buddy!
Hi kendriab, would you be interested in being traveling buddies? Also from the threads that I've read for your 1st assignment larger staffing companies (i.e. Fastaff, American Mobile Healthcare, etc.) are best then you should go with smaller ones. I'm told smaller staffing companies seem to have the best pay but overall CA is the place to be and has the best pay. Feel free to message me!
Hello RNChet, thanks for the reply! I have thought about having a travel buddy. It's funny that you asked. I'm not able to PM just yet because I haven't reached the minimum amount of posts to do so. I would love to hear more from you. Do you have a facebook or instagram account? My first stop will be California.

Hello all,
Just an update. My first assignment will be in September, hopefully in the Maryland/DC area with Aya healthcare. Any advice? I'm 24 yrs old and it would be my first real experience living on my own. Is there anyone else heading to that area?
