Hi any nurse here in Queensland? just want to ask for a little help maybe you can recommend any book or review materials i can use for the Competency Assessment Test (QLD Nursing Council) I just need it badly. Thanks!

i have consulted QNC and they have verified that those taking the CAS route must finish both Parts A & B before 01/07/10.

i'll be taking the exam in february. i have to pass all 4! or maybe fail just 1! which would be not easy.

this is a big risk for me but i'm taking it. god please always remind me of your presence.

Hi dreaminOZ! yes i too am just patiently waiting for the assessment. Yes I have actually followed-up with them way back in the last week of October and they replied that I just have to wait for my assessment and that it should come to me on the last week of November or 1st week of December. Well.. it's already the fifth of December... but I'm hoping that it'll arrive by next week and that it's a positive one. I'm currently reviewing for another exam so at least there's something that's keeping me busy. But yeah, really can't wait to receive my assessment so that I too can create a timetable or "estimated schedule" of sorts.

Just wanna clarify. That 01/07/10 that you wrote, that's July 1 right? And not January 7? Coz how can we take the Feb exam if we have to be finished by Jan 7? Sorry, just wanna be sure also. It's been a long time since I emailed QNC and I have no recent news about the exam whatsoever. Thanks! :D

Hello dreaminOZ, congratz on the positive assessment result! well, good luck to your exams. May I know how long did u wait for ur assessment? does QNC email first the candidate about the assessment? I know your preparing to take the exam this Feb. I know a review center that caters to CAS Queensland. Would u like to know?

I just received the actual papers today. I'm torned between taking this January or February. I have been reading since I think June but not really that seious as I was not certain if I would have a positive assessment 'coz I am just a second courser with no experience. Until I got really curious last September and found out that I had to submit my IELTS, so I took IELTS last September and thank God passed. :D

I am only about 10% ready for the exam, I can not review solely as I have an office job which I need to keep maybe until end of this year. So I guess I will have to take the exam in February. I hope against all odds I'll pass as much as I can. :redbeathe

Yes chocokat79, we have to finish CAS before 1 July 2010. QNC is not aware of the process after 30 June 2010.

We are on a tight schedule...hopefully we will be able to make it!! :redbeathe

You should receive the assessment maybe this week or next...So I guess you will be taking the test this February too? Are you from Cebu by any chance?

Thanks UR49. I submitted my application last May and got my assessment just today so mine took about 7 months. QNC does not email the candidate about the assessment,they send the actual assessment papers by post with the CAS application to CQU. I inquired about my assessment by email and it just happened they have already sent it when I emailed so they told me about it in the email. I received the actual papers today.

About the review center, I read somewhere in this site that they're only in Manila? I'm from Cebu so I have to self-study and pray a lot... :redbeathe

Hi dreaminOZ! Thanks for your reply. I'm from Manila. So you're from Cebu? Yes if ever I get my positive assessment I will have my written exam scheduled for Feb next year. I was kinda hoping to still make it for January so that some of the topics in my review now (I'm reviewing for the NCLEX coz I'll be taking it real soon... this month :D) will hopefully still be fresh in my mind. But they say that one has to schedule their desired date of exam a month early so I guess February it is...

I too have no idea on how to start studying for the exam. Read the 4 recommended books? Hmmm... I know it's easy to say but really hard to do coz a few months back I attempted reading one book and it was really boring... But I guess we have to sacrifice and for sure God will reward us for our hard work! Well, good luck on your studying and God bless! Keep me posted, ok? It seems that you're the only one I know in this forum that's more or less in the same timeline and situation as mine (with us doing the CAS route in a couple of months). I'll keep you posted as well.. Hope I receive my assessment anytime soon..:bugeyes:

That's July 1...which means everything must be completed by June 30, 2010.

To those who have already taken CAS...how long does the embassy process visa applications? Oh, and I've read in the CAS booklet...for the clinical placement...they require that there be an evidence of current CPR qualification...but how current is current?

I hope the veterans will be able to answer our queries...

I'm afraid your schedule is really time pressed... even if you get the advisory by April at the latest, you would only be able to sit for the exam by May (2nd wednesday) as CAS requires a month long reservation beforehand, and receive the results by the end of may, or early june (10 working days waiting time), all must go well, then you would have to process for your visa (which I've heard may take up to 6 weeks, I do hope someone can give us a clearer visa timeframe idea)... Everything must be accomplished by June 30, 2010...

Wow good for you chocokat79! Reviewing for NCLEX would help a lot for the CAS exam, you'll be hitting 2 birds with 1 stone!:yeah: Goodluck on NCLEX!

Yes I'm from Cebu and hope to take the test also here in Cebu at IDP.

I'm still tied to my work up to now, I can't resign until the 31st so I probably can study full time only in January. :D I sent my application to CQU yesterday just by snail mail since I could not catch the deadline for January anyway.

I dont have the Potter and Perry Funda Book but I have 2 Fundamentals in Nursing books and 2 reviewers for Funda as well. I hope the Potter and Perry is similar to what I got. I have the 3 other books gifted by my brother, they're actually quite interesing specially the cultural book...Too much to review with sooo little time...i hope and pray that we can make it!
