After two months of waiting I finally received a letter from CRNBC saying I need to complete the SEC Assessment in General (Med/Surg) Nursing. I am willing to take it and even the upgrading courses if they say so (I can loan from my parents) but I'm anxious if I will be granted a Temporary Resident Visa since embassies are very strict when it comes to applicants from developing countries. I can't prove to Canadian Immigration that I am rich because I am not and unfortunately, it seems like they only allow rich people to visit their country since they are requiring applicants to submit proof of assets which I don't have. And I completely understand them since there are also people who stay beyond the validity of their visas and I want to convince them I will not be an illegal immigrant even if I don't have any riches to come back home to but my husband.
Now, I'd like to know if there are any Filipino RNs out there who are in the same boat as I am. Talk to me, please! Or anybody who'd like to share whatever. Thanks!

I would say meet the requiremetns and show plenty of proof that you plan on returning back to the Philippines once you have completed SEC

Hi
I am also an IEN who went through the SEC assessment. It is not true that Canada is allowing only rich people to visit her as we are only average-income government employees in the Philippines but we met all their requirements and provided documentary evidence to prove it. Do not despair as long as you have those requirements then you are on the right track. Keep in touch.

If you wish to get a visitor visa to Canada, you must submit a visitor visa application to a visa office at a Canadian embassy, high commission or consulate abroad, along with two passport size pictures, proof of available funds, along with a non-refundable processing fee.
Section 8 of the Immigration Act provides that the burden of proof of establishing that a person has a right to come into Canada rests with the person seeking admission to Canada.
Section 9 of the Immigration Act provides that a person who applies to a visa officer is presumed to be an immigrant. Therefore, failure to satisfy a visa officer that you are entering Canada temporarily will result in refusal of the application.

Thanks Azalia. I just hope that my documents are sufficient to prove to them that I will come back. My bank account and salary is not impressive, I don't have any business registration, land or house titles and I think that those are the basis of the what the consul's decision may be.
So, how did you SEC assessment go? Did you take the CRNE already or the upgrading courses? Nice to know someone who went through this already.

Thanks rogue2578. It says in the Canadian Immigration in Manila website that it can also be arranged for my documents, application form and fee to be picked up by their courier and that is applicable anywhere in the Philippines. Which one is better, I send the requirements myself or have it picked up from our house?

Hi,
Yes, i took the CRNE last June 3 and passed and I did not take any upgrading courses. But the assessment took a long time to process as they needed more documents, more than a year actually. The documents came from the Philippines (PRC, school, former employer, etc) and sent directly to CNO. So your visa is a visitor's visa? Do you have relatives here in Canada?
I know you will make it, just be patient.

Hi Azalia. Thanks for the quick replies. At least with you, the wait is short. Can you show the time line of your application to CNO from the date you submitted the requirements. Here's mine with CRNBC:
March 25, '09 - Requested IELTS to forward my results to CRNBC
March 27, '09 - Submitted processing fee and application from via DHL
April 22, '09 - Mailed via EMS school documents (Basic Nursing Education Transcripts- Form 30)
May 5, '09- Got e-mail from CRNBC that they received my application and informed me the lacking requirements
May 11, '09 - Mailed via EMS Verification request (Form 25) from PRC
June 1, '09 - Mailed (ordinary mail) Employment Reference for Nurse Registration (Form 37)
July 9, '09 - Received letter from CRNBC stating that I need to complete the SEC assessment in Med/Surg Area with a Letter of Invitation (for the application of visa), a release of information form and a research participation opportunity letter.
I am a bit confused with your assessment that took more than a year. Is it the assessment of your eligibility with CNO or the SEC assessment? How did you review for the CNRE. Congratulations on you result!
Yes, I will apply for visitor's/Temporary Resident Visa and I have a cousin in BC where I will stay during the SEC assessment period. What type of visa is yours?
Thanks for the positive vibes!
Thank you. I am a landed immigrant. The only reason why it took so long for me to process my assessment with CNO was the sending of the the documents from RP to CNO. I had to ask my sister to make a follow-up with my school and PRC. I am a second courser so they needed documents from my other school to show proof that I was done with the basics and did a four year university degree, not just two years. I was already here in Canada when I applied with CNO.

Canada is becoming more strict about entry because we have had a huge increase in people coming for a visit and suddenly becoming refugees or "forgetting" to go home.
Visitors from Mexico and the Czech Republic are now required to have a visa for a short visit. So more countries will likely be added to the list.
Wahine, I think we have the same problem. But we have different province of application. I applied at CNO in Ontario. I don't have eligibility yet but instead I got a letter of option.
Just an advise , you can try to apply fo a visitor visa but theres no guarantee. Many from this forum applied for a visa and got denied. Especially those scheduled for sec. Even showed a half a million pesos in their bank statement. With complete certificate of employment with approved leave. The consular officer assess an applicant's job prospect here in the Philippines. " No employment for nurses ". Thats a given stigma from a consular officers perspective.
Nurses applying for a tourist visa, has high probability of being rejected.
So you can decide. But theres no harm in trying.
So gather as much evidence as you can of your strong ties here in the Philippines. Good Luck with your application
