Any Philippine RN required to undergo SEC Assessment?

After two months of waiting I finally received a letter from CRNBC saying I need to complete the SEC Assessment in General (Med/Surg) Nursing. I am willing to take it and even the upgrading courses if they say so (I can loan from my parents) but I'm anxious if I will be granted a Temporary Resident Visa since embassies are very strict when it comes to applicants from developing countries. I can't prove to Canadian Immigration that I am rich because I am not and unfortunately, it seems like they only allow rich people to visit their country since they are requiring applicants to submit proof of assets which I don't have. And I completely understand them since there are also people who stay beyond the validity of their visas and I want to convince them I will not be an illegal immigrant even if I don't have any riches to come back home to but my husband.

Now, I'd like to know if there are any Filipino RNs out there who are in the same boat as I am. Talk to me, please! Or anybody who'd like to share whatever. Thanks!

So gather as much evidence as you can of your strong ties here in the Philippines. Good Luck with your application

Hi rogue, good luck with your application too. Update me whatever happens you yours, ok? Luck is really the name of the game for us.

Canada is becoming more strict about entry because we have had a huge increase in people coming for a visit and suddenly becoming refugees or "forgetting" to go home.

Visitors from Mexico and the Czech Republic are now required to have a visa for a short visit. So more countries will likely be added to the list.

Yes, I am aware of the flocking of illegal immigrants in Canada that's why the country is stricter this time. And I know that the only way to prove them that I will not overstay is present them the documents I do not have. I'm like going to the battle without bullets. I certainly do not have any plans of overstaying, that's just too much hassle. I'll just consider this a gamble, burn some money and see where it'll take me.

Thanks Azalia. I just hope that my documents are sufficient to prove to them that I will come back. My bank account and salary is not impressive, I don't have any business registration, land or house titles and I think that those are the basis of the what the consul's decision may be.

Wahine, I think we have the same problem. But we have different province of application. I applied at CNO in Ontario. I don't have eligibility yet but instead I got a letter of option.

Just an advise , you can try to apply fo a visitor visa but theres no guarantee. Many from this forum applied for a visa and got denied. Especially those scheduled for sec. Even showed a half a million pesos in their bank statement. With complete certificate of employment with approved leave. The consular officer assess an applicant's job prospect here in the Philippines. " No employment for nurses ". Thats a given stigma from a consular officers perspective.

Nurses applying for a tourist visa, has high probability of being rejected.

So you can decide. But theres no harm in trying.

When I read this, it made me laugh, because I felt rogue2578 was talking about me! LOL! But yes, as embarassing as this may sound, I got denied by the Manila Canadian Embassy despite all the documents I have presented. But since I am an aspiring Canadian, I am not giving up, and still looking for other ways to get to Canada. (thru work permit, I suppose..LOL)

But Wahine, if ever you do get approved, pls. contact me so I would know what I could do, and if I did do something wrong with my application. Your help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hello Ikang, sorry to hear about the result of your visa application. Can you tell me what you did so that I can learn from your trial-and-error? Like, how "strong" or "weak" were your supporting documents? Don't feel embarrassed, we know you are not the only one in that situation. Tell you what, you even gave me a little hope when you said "if ever you get approved" 'coz I really doubt it that I will. If I am the Consulate officer, I will not approve myself based on my documents and I sure don't want to fabricate anything! But I will not accept defeat without a fight so I will still apply for a TRV. Update me also about your Canadian plans :)

I actually made a forum about my situation. Here it is: https://allnurses.com/international-nursing/what-does-canadian-404562.html

I discussed everything that has happened at that time.

Good luck on your application.

Thanks. I just posted something in that thread. So you applied for student permit also? Did you plan to study there?

I applied for a single entry only. And yes, I did apply for a student visa because I was offered a scholarship in one school in ontario. But I got denied because I wrote in my application that I wanted my husband and son to accompany me. Which was my bad. I definitely provided them proof that I wasn't going back since I brought my whole family along with me.

Have you submitted your application yet to the Canadian Embassy?

But your family can go with you if you go as a student. I know of a few UK citizens that came to Canada as a student and brought their family with them,

I know, that's is exactly why I got confused. It's one advantage of being a student, but when I got denied because of that, then I just didn't bother complaining.

Not yet, still gathering documents. A scholarship in Ontario? That's awesome. It's strange you got denied of a student visa because you requested to do something that the visa would allow. Maybe because of the stigma attached to Philippine RNs.

Hi there, I've booked to take my SEC in Calgary in the last week of September 2009; I've been preparing for it for a few weeks now. Still, I'm very anxious about it. I'm in Vancouver. It would be nice to be in touch with someone in there who's preparing for SEC as well- for group study and sharing of resources like books.

You may send me an PM message...

thanks
