Any other new grads starting at Johns Hopkins?

Published

Hi everyone! I just got my first job offer at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD and am SO EXCITED!!! The only thing I'm nervous about is that I don't know anyone in the area, nor any other new grads in my position. I've been trying to google search threads or anything to find people in my position but haven't found anything... so now I'm resorting to this! Please, please comment or message me if you are in the same boat as me! :)

Hi happynurse!

Sorry cant help you with any advice, but congrats!! :-)

I heard it is a very intense place to work. Have you started yet?

Ahh yay! Finally a response!! Haha. Thank you! I'm very excited! And no, I have not started yet. I was given the choice between 2 start dates, one in early July and one in early September. I knew it would take a long time to get my ATT and sit for the NCLEX in time for early July, so I chose September. It'll be a nice, LONG summer for me. Not complaining too much

Congrats! I hope to be in your position someday.

@nandosport, you most certainly can be! :)

What did your timeline of applying for the job/graduating/interviewing look like?

thanks!

Dfwebb, overall the process took about a couple months. I applied roughly sometime in late February/ early March. They responded with interest to set up an interview about 3 weeks later. We played email tag for a while until my interview was scheduled for the last week of May and I received the offer 2 days later.

It's me. I live in Philadelphia and stay in Baltimore when I work. I have no plans to move. There are many nurses that commute from Jersey, DC, and Philly. Most people in my Spring class live ion counties surrounding Baltimore. Hopkins campus is sage, but the surrounding neighborhood is a little shady. I'm from inner city Philly, so it doesn't bother me. Trust me you will make acquaintances in Spring class. Keep in touch once you start so that I can meet you. Good luck. Order your uniforms early. They take forever to come.

Hi!

I'm wondering how you went about applying there. Is there a deadline for new grads, is it a formal fellowship program that begins on certain dates only? I graduate in December and am just waiting on letters of recommendation to apply.

Specializes in hospice.

Did you apply to a posting on their website? What is the process to be hired as a new grad? Are you happy with what they offered you?

@Iliauna: there is no deadline, they have a new grad nurse residency program that has a new cohort every month! The first week of each month is when they begin the orientation.

@Raviepoo: Yep, I applied online to a nurse clinician I position. A few weeks later, they contacted me for an interview and it was scheduled for about 2 weeks after that. As a new grad, I was hired onto a specific unit and put into the nurse residency program which pretty much is just a group of new grads and we meet once a month for classes. Overall, I'm SOO happy with my choice. They offer good pay and have great benefits. The working environment is awesome too! They really care about each and every employee.
