  1. I am CVICU/SICU fortunately.
  2. Hi guys, I need to pay off some student loans and thinking about going to CA for a year or so. I'm looking for areas where I can make the most (pay/housing cost) and have options to extend (or sign with a different hospital). How is Sacramento area? any advice is much appreciated!
  3. I am working with them now and frankly can't wait to finish my contract. Other travelers on the same unit are making more than I am even tho I was able to negotiate higher pay than what they originally offered. There are no benefits with them either, they are offering health insurance for $3 off of every hour of my pay. Like really?? Travel reimbursement is only $300 each way, no sick leave etc. I am not an experienced traveler either so I learned the hard way ughh Would not advice to work for them, there are many companies that treat their travelers much better.
  4. Im from Florida. And no I haven't taken the course yet but the syllabus looks pretty straight forward
  5. Hi! I am applying this year as well, trying to get my app in before april 1st. Have you submitted yours yet?
  6. Awesome, congrats! I'll be submitting mine next month, need to start studying for the dreaded GRE.
  7. Hi everyone! I will be applying soon as well. I'm so excited! Literally, have been waiting for it for years. :) I would prefer Tampa or Orlando site as the primary one too. I have not taken the GRE yet, planning for it next month. I am terrified. Do you guys mind sharing your stats? My GPA 3.4, CCRN-CMC, 1.5 years level 1 trauma SICU/CSICU, 1 year flight rn, 1 year cardiac stepdown.
  8. In my hospital system, giving a bolus of propofol, ketamine etc is considered practicing anesthesia and cannot be done by a RN. Its outside of our scope of practice = illegal in FL. Only a physician can give an iv push of those. Ive seen it done under the table, of course.
  9. Hi guys, i will be interviewing with Florida Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, FL soon and I would like some feedback from people who know the facility. I have a couple of years of experience but going into new specialty so they want me to sign a 3-year contract. Its kind of scary considering that its a Tenet hospital - has a bad rap. Any thoughts? i would really appreciate any feedback!
  10. $23/hr +$5 night dif New grad South Florida Tele
  11. Market for new grads in south Florida is horrible. Stay away if you can. There are NO jobs. Adn or bsn. Many nursing schools in the area. You need to look for Months unless you know someone who can get you in. Oh and once you get hired you are going to be paid as low as $22(!)/hr with 6-7 patient ratio. Cost of living in a decent area here is pretty high. Most of the nurses i went to school with in Miami are miserable in their first jobs. It might be easier to find a job somewhere in a rural area and just suck it up for a year Imho
  12. Hi happynurse! Sorry cant help you with any advice, but congrats!! :-) I heard it is a very intense place to work. Have you started yet?
  13. Hey guys! I saw this discussion and got a bit nostalgic lol i was in your shoes not too long ago. So here is my two cents: My average class gpa i believe was 3.4 when we started. We started with 60 people in my class, only 10 or so graduated on time. I know mdc has a pretty good reputation, but the only advantage i saw to it is the price. Its very affordable, cant really beat that. I was very "unlucky" with teachers tho: most of them were useless, confusing and annoying. Thats just my class tho, i know people who graduated after me had a different experience. All on all, if i could do it all over again, i would go to straight bsn school . I
  14. Thanks!! Im going to order a couple of those.
  15. Hey guys! I'm hoping to get hired into ICU soon and was wondering if there are books you recommend to impress the hiring manager and potentially help me learn to be a good icu nurse? Your input is much appreciated, thanks!
